When was war declared against Venezuela?

Boat Suspected of Smuggling Drugs Is Said to Have Turned Before U.S. Attacked It

The Trump administration has argued that the summary killing of 11 people it accused of running drugs was legal under the laws of war.

A Venezuelan boat that the U.S. military destroyed in the Caribbean last week had altered its course and appeared to have turned around before the attack started because the people onboard had apparently spotted a military aircraft stalking it, according to American officials familiar with the matter.

The military repeatedly hit the vessel before it sank, the officials added, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. The administration has claimed the boat was carrying drugs.

The disclosures provide new details about an operation that was a startling departure from traditional drug interdiction efforts, escalating President Trump’s use of the military for matters typically handled by law enforcement. Legal specialists have disputed that it was lawful for the military, on President Trump’s orders, to target and kill drug smuggling suspects as if they were combatants in a war.

Does declaring war against drug smugglers mean we can bomb people in Mexico? Importantly, where is the hard evidence the trump government made about the boat and the people in it?

Vitally, have the Repub's in Congress scheduled hearings on the matter of the government's claimed justification? If not why not?
Now lefties are defending cartel drug runners.

President Trump sure knows how to manipulate you into the most ridiculous positions.

We don't need Congress. Per Trump yesterday we are just going to kill them.
what do you think we need Congress for here? You think they can pass some law the cartels are going to start following? You think Congress has any jurisdiction over the cartels or international waters?

They don't. Thats the thing. They are illegal.

All Trump has to do is notify Congress of what he is doing and the intent. They can then decide if they want to invoke the War Powers Act.
Trump notified Congress on Oct 1

Another swing and a miss by the uninformed dembots.

I didn't see anyone coming to the realization that Trump had designated these groups as terrorists.

That's huge. There's a reason.

HOUSTON, Texas — A Union Pacific railroad employee reported the discovery of a brush fire near a storage facility along an interstate highway in Houston. Firefighters responded and found the partially burned body of a man hanging by a rope from the overpass, police officials stated.

If you think you’re going to find much sympathy for dead drug runners, you’re fighting a losing battle.

They’re drug dealers in boats on the open sea. They’re not entitled to due process nor do they deserve it.

And trying to equate killing drug dealers in no-man’s land to indiscriminately bombing civilians in a city is pretty dumb

Prove they're extra judicial and not in compliance with law.
The administration claims that this is a “war” on drugs, which supposedly justifies extrajudicial killing. But redefining civilian drug criminals as “combatants” gives away the reality: the government just militarized what was a low-level criminal law enforcement incident outside the United States.

Once we consider the victims’ alleged illegal actions, we can see that the government committed the most egregious crime here.

  1. Drug smuggling is not a capital crime. Even if we suppose the victims were guilty, they did not deserve fiery incineration. That’s not just the moral view. That’s the view of US law. People—citizens or noncitizens—who possess illegal drugs cannot legally be executed even after being convicted after a trial. People who possess drugs cannot be shot by law enforcement because drug possession is a nonviolent offense for which the penalty is incarceration for a period determined by a judge. Also, a federal appeals court recently found that drug smuggling does not constitute an “invasion” that would justify a military response. When police kill criminal suspects who are not actively threatening violence against others, it is murder. Ask former officer Derek Chauvin, who asphyxiated George Floyd.

'armed enemy combatants'

What weaponry and/or armor did those poor bastards on those speed boats have? Who were they attacking and intentionally trying to kill? Smuggling contraband is not a capital crime. It is not a declaration of war on America.

They probably didn't have any fentanyl and probably weren't heading for the USA.
