do you think trump shoving his agenda down your throat makes him any more authoritarian than a Democrat president shoving their agenda down our throats? What type of person prefers a fascist government?
I have been in shock on how many citizens prefer an authoritarian government, as Trump is implementing, as opposed to a democratic republic. Democracy vs Fascism
I asked ChatGPT. The answer makes sense. It fits the definition of many of our citizens.
That’s a great question — and a complex one, because support for fascist governments usually reflects a mix of psychological, social, and situational factors rather than a single “type” of person.
Here’s a breakdown of what research in political psychology and sociology suggests:
1. Psychological Traits
Certain personality traits are more commonly associated with fascist or authoritarian preferences:
- Authoritarian personality: People who value obedience, order, and conformity, and who distrust outsiders, often show higher support for fascist systems.
- Need for certainty and control: Individuals uncomfortable with ambiguity or social change may prefer a strong, centralized power promising stability.
- Aggression toward outgroups: People with high social dominance orientation (a preference for hierarchy and inequality) may support regimes that enforce those hierarchies.
2. Social and Cultural Factors
- Perceived threat: When people feel threatened — economically, culturally, or physically — they may turn toward authoritarian or fascist leaders who promise protection and national renewal.
- Collectivist nationalism: Those who strongly identify with their nation and believe it’s under threat from outsiders or internal “enemies” can be drawn to fascist ideologies.
- Disillusionment with democracy: People frustrated by political gridlock, corruption, or inequality may come to see democratic systems as weak or ineffective.
3. Situational and Historical Context
- Economic hardship: In times of crisis (e.g., hyperinflation, unemployment, or war), people are more likely to accept authoritarian promises of order and prosperity.
- Propaganda and social pressure: Fascist movements often use emotional appeals, fear, and belonging to recruit followers — so context and communication matter a lot.
4. Demographic Patterns (Historically)
Historically, support for fascist movements has come from:
- Members of the middle class fearing downward mobility.
- Younger men seeking purpose or belonging.
- People in areas with high inequality or rapid social change.

I'm amused that you think the way Trump has governed since being reelected is "fascist"! I understand that you don't like many of his policies but he was elected by a majority of Americans who DO like them! Trump ran on a specific agenda...making no secret of what he intended to do...and since he was elected he has carried out the things that he told the electorate he would do!What type of person prefers a fascist government?

I don't disagree. There are degrees of authoritarinism/fascism. Trump has increased the degree of authoritarianism substantially. He has gone beyond his own actions. He has been able to chnge the system to over ride the safeguards the founding fahers put in our government to prevent a King or a dictator. Our government has been changed for future presidents. What happens when a whacko left winger is elected president and the safeguards have been weakened.ElmerMudd
The person who profits from a fascist system, obviously, prefers such a system. We've had a fascist system to some degree or another for decades in this country. Trump is merely putting the icing on the cake.
See your very first effort is fact absent because there is no facism but there is your out of control feelings and wishesThe characteristics of those who prefer fascism over democracy is an aggregation of thousands of data bases that have studied the subject.
The list shows characteristics of those who show tendancies to prefer fascism. It is not a black or white issue.
Simple minds can only comprehend black or white statemnts

The Democrat talking point that Trump is a "fascist" is almost laughable at this point! He wasn't the one who used the power of government to go after his political enemies, Elmer. That was Barack Obama and Joe Biden! The two of them have done things that make Richard Nixon look like a rank amateur when it comes to abuse of power. There are now investigations into the people who abused their positions under Obama and Biden but that's in response to the actions of people like Brennan, Comey, Smith, James, Garland, Schiff, and Wray. You can't have a functioning Democracy when you allow the people in power to abuse their office like some Banana Republic.

Yes, Most socialist governements result in some sort of dictatorship. The ideology of socialism disregards the nature of some people who seek power over others and the system does not build safeguards. You know, communism also believes in authoritarian rule.

- Extreme nationalism: The ideology elevates the nation and often a specific race above the individual.

- Suppression of opposition: Dissent is not tolerated and is forcibly suppressed through the police and military.
