What liberals dont understand.....

I won't even attempt to say Hillary would be an improvement. And I'm not saying being a populist is necessarily a bad thing. We may need one to keep soc sec and medicare … down the road. I just meant that Trump is not delivering what he ran on. And if he is reelected, it may be because of latinos who are legally here and working, and believe in self-help, even though their first generation probably got stuff like Medicaid.

I was for Rubio.

I realize it isn't "conservative" and for damn sure not a libertarian position, but at this point I don't see any way we can undo SS or medicare, but I do believe the means of funding needs work. At some point we will have a lot more people on those programs than paying into them. I'm not holding out hope that anything gets fixed though.

These programs were never intended to work. They were introduced as "inroads" to socialism. Read the Communist Manifesto if you have doubts. The entire point is to undermine free markets (ie freedom) and condition society to the idea of state dependency. The oligarchs have been looking for a replacement for slavery since the Civil War ended.

yeah. Reagan came to accept medicare in the 80s because it was not going anywhere. Here we are 40 years past then, so it's no use in talking about how things were in 1965, and whether seniors lacked access to healthcare. As the saying goes, it is what it is.

social security was a bit different. It's one of those "insurance" programs like unemployment that "guarantee" some consumer spending even in economic downturns. We screwed up in not addressing the boomer years back when the program was in the black, and that was a bipartisan failure, unlike the Reagan years where bipartisanship worked. Imo we boomers suck.

There will be another chance when the program goes into the black again when my asshole generation is dead … and either rotting or in hell
