The reason we were in Vietnam is because we are colonial imperialists, and saw the opportunity to make money off what used to be the French monopoly before Ho Chi Minh defeated them.
That is so funny. It's not even close.
We had very little business interests there.
This was about the "domino theory".
The Domino Theory was fake and had nothing to do with it really.
Utter hogswill.
The first thing we did was stop the democratic elections in Vietnam, and back the military takeover by the dictator Diem.
We never signed the accords. Diem was elected in (what I am sure was a really fair and honest election) after Dai abducated.
The real elections were for reunification.
Since we didn't sign the accord, we didn't sign up for the elections. They were never held.
Given the mood of the country (the fall of China, the Korean War and whatever) Kennedy probed. He was ready to get out and would have gotten us out. Johnson took over and wasn't going to let that "piss-ant" country win.
Not sure your point about the 17th amendment?
That appears to be a good thing, where senators were elected by the people instead of by the state legislators.
Thus demonstrating (1) your ignorance of the structure of the Constitution.
Your disdain for states soveriegnty which you seem so want to push because it suites you stupid little purpose.
Senators were accountable to the states. As Madison said, they were there to cool down the house when it got to crazy. That should help you understand why the 10th was so important and why your constant violation of it is so enraging. Putting their election in the hands of the people no longer seprates them from the house. They have become super representatives.
As it stands, we should just do away with them. They are the most corrupt of the whole lot.
They don't care about the protection of state powers. They only care about fortune and fame (Can you say Harry Reid or that total jerkwad Ted "I'm so glad he's dead" Kennedy"?
