Do Muslim women in those countries really live in “horrible peril,” or is that oversold? Plenty seem fine with not having to work outside the home—men are expected to fully provide, cover all bills, and handle the financial stress so women can focus on family and home. I do not have a problem understanding why you are outraged. The point is they are not outraged. It is their culture. The man or men when in a group travel in front to handle anything that should happen like muggers or other such ills. The women feel protected by their men. When they go out in public they cover up because it is their religion and culture. Right here in the United States we have Jewish women who cover their hair. Some do it by wearing wigs, and some by wearing a scarf. There are Pentecostals that require their women to wear long skirts. Then there are the Amish/Mennonite/Hutterites that require women to always wear a bonnet and long dresses. That’s right here in this country. Are you outraged at them?

You say that it is poison to western culture but we aren’t talking about western culture in this thread. We are talking about predominantly Muslim countries. You are not required to go live there. I am not offended by ignorance. I’ve traveled to many countries and have seen a lot of positives in those Muslim countries to which you abhor. You won’t find a cleaner city in the world than Dubai. Not only is it clean but safe, too. That’s a primarily Muslim city in a Muslim country.

Think about where a man walks versus where a woman walks to this day in America. The man walks on the left side. Why? Goes back to tradition, the man needed to be able to draw his sword in case of rogues, and he didn’t want to slicer her ear off. In other cultures the women walked behind the men. The men were usually discussing business, the women were discussing kids or home stuff, and if someone stepped out to do them harm, the men were in front to handle it. It’s just tradition. Truthfully, in most Muslim countries if it is just the man and his wife, they walk side by side, but if there are two men or two women, the women walk behind the men.

You can assume anything you wish but you’d be wrong. I’ve spent time in other countries, and have been around people from other cultures. Rather than just think they are wrong, I try to learn from those experiences.

The comment you replied to is where I spoke of men and women in America walking down the street together. Watch couples walking down the street. Here’s another interesting correlation for you on that topic, when two American service members are walking down the sidewalk, the superior rank is to the right. The reason? The position to the right is one of respect, the person to the left would be the one to draw his sword, usually in a sweeping motion to defend.
