Some of the Lefts answers are 100% correct, like them or not. If there were no tariffs, we would have zero auto industry......or next to it.

But then again, the LEFT people who responded, forget aspect number 2 of the economic program, which will 100% work IF Trump can get it through. (we will have to see) And what is that? Very, very, VERY, low income tax rates on profits for products built here. Now that is NOT a tariff, and logical. Also, he mentioned autos.........but being allowed to deduct interest on your auto loan IF your auto was built here. I am reasonably sure if it passes, he will include other big ticket items in the mix. That is a winner, winner, chicken dinner..........unless of course the auto corporations put zero % interest rates on all of their product line, trying to circumvent the disparity, which they might do. It would be anti-American in my opinion, but what it would do is freeze out almost all European autos at the very least, unless they have a plant or 2 here.

If we lived in.a world with equal standards throughout the world we wouldn't be having this problem at all. That is long overdo. Americans can have equal and generally have better than that BUT trump wants to keep his cake and eat it at the same time. That's not even possible , except in his dreams , obviously. Thus we are left with a madman's dreams upending the entire world. And the republicans are to blame for it.

That explains why the Democrats and only a few Republicans are bitching about all of the corruption that Elon Musk is discovering. That also explains why Democrats are encouraging their voters to become violent and destructive.
