I was kind of thinking of how annoying it is to have to get mail these days. Most of it is junk and you have to walk all the way down half a block to go get it. I didn't know that each person had to have a mailbox (I believe that this is true). It would be great to have the choice to opt-out of the mail delivery system but we can't because the government has to know where to send the IRS letters and things like that. What if this idea became popular enough that a majority of people wanted this? Does anyone really think the politicians would respect the wishes of their constituents enough to actually begin moving on this? Consider that many corporations make big money donations to their campaigns and those same corporations actually get a reduced bulk mail rate to send you junk mail. Do you actually think that politicians would listen long enough to do what you want them to do if they feared losing those campaign donations? Would anyone who supported this idea get labeled as a dangerous right winger who toughts anti-government rhetoric or be demonfied as racist? It just seems like that the majority of people (rich and poor) in this country can no longer control the machine that creates the rules that we live by which is completely undemocratic. I really feel this is why the average citizen doesn't get involved in politics because they know that unless they are pushing the progressive agenda that they won't get anywhere with their movement. I would think that any citizen anywhere would feel confident that if they had an opportunity to affect the laws of this country that they would do it since their are a lot of laws that people don't like.

You thread fails in the title. This nation has never been, and God willing, never will be a Democracy.

Not to worry. It is presently a budding Caliphate, thanks to Supreme Leader Obama.

I see some people really just hate it when the masses have control over the government.

Want to get rid of the postal service. Just amend that Constitution pal.

Did Mexico pay for this?

Now it is a monarchy with the Clinton family ruling currently.

It's hard to be humble amidst all this.

I'm fucking brilliant, and that's all there is to it.

NYCabineer suffering from serious Dunning-Kruger again.

Part of how intelligence exhibits itself in intelligent people is in their ability to recognize how smart they are.

USMB is just an assistant to that process.

What? this is your response? We live in a republic, and you respond with this?

With any luck after this Nov. we'll be living in a post-Republican America! :2up:

This "we're not a democracy" meme is getting really old and tiresome. We're both a republic AND a democracy. I seems to be mainly used as an "I'm smarter than you" ploy to avoid actual debate.
