What drives anti-government extremists?

I have my own beliefs and opinions, but I'd really like to hear from others.

One word: Freedom

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The above is the best answer I have seen in response to the O. P. And the picture tells the story.

But, the fight for Freedom goes back way further than just our fight for Independence. It goes back at least to William Wallace the Braveheart and Robert the Bruce...and to Bannock Burn, where the Scots destroyed the army of the oppressive central government in London.

The Scots have always been singularly turbulent and ungovernable. It has been said that "in perseverance, in self-command, in forethought...the Scots have never been surpassed."

Obviously, they believe in Self-Reliance, rather than in being told how to live their lives by a central authority.

Many Scots migrated to Ireland in the early 17th century, and stayed for around a century, until they moved on to America--where they have come to be known as Scots-Irish. But, their blood is entirely Scottish...the blood of the Braveheart.

And also in the early 17th century, the Puritan were migrating to America. They came from in and around London, and when they arrived, there declared themselves "the Elect of God"; that is, their superiority over others. And, once they were in authority, they developed the same love of control that they and their ancestors had known from the Kings of England--the oppressive central authority.

These are the main cultures that make up America toady.

The descendants of the Puritans no longer know the Lord, but they still think themselves superior, and they have learned to love control more than ever...which they get from an oppressive government in Washington...and which they find necessary because the Scots-Irish descendants...living mostly in the Heartland of America, and not the rotting cities of the North...are still Self-Reliant, and resistant to being told how they are to live their lives.

The word "Liberty" answers the O. P., but it is necessary to understand who it is that loves Liberty and who it is that loves Control.

Under John Adams, a Puritan descendant, the Sedition Acts were passed and our American Government started putting people in jail for criticizing his Administration. Jefferson ran against Adams for this reason, in part. And, after he beat him, he pardoned all who had been put in jail for exercising their Freedom of Speech..

Jefferson is of Scottish descent.

The point is that the fight we wage today against control by the Leviathan in Washington is not new...and it is against very old foes.

The Jeffersonians are losing today, because the government has learned that it can borrow money from oil-rich Muslims and Red China to buy masses of people off the notion of Self-Reliance and onto the Government Plantation.

But, the Controllers have only a limited amount of time to establish the Totalitarianism they have always craved...because the money will run out soon.

Then, there may have to be another Bannock Burn; or another Yorktown.

"Don't call this revolution an American Revolution. It is a Scots-Irish Revolution." This, from a report by a Hessian officer in the service of King George III. Because you see, while the English Americans were evenly spit on our Revolution. about half Patriot, about half Tory, the Scots-Irish to a man, fought for George Washington.

Its about Liberty...and the enemy is known.

What drives anti-government extremists?

Fear of change, diversity, and dissent; the errant believe among reactionaries that change somehow poses a 'threat' to their special interests, as well as subjective hostility toward those perceived to be 'different.'

So is that why the far left were bombing places in America in the late 60's and 70's?

Nobody was more extremest anti-government than Bill Ayers. He is guilty of hundreds of anti-government felonies including conspiracy to murder Ft. Dix Soldiers and the felony murder of his friends who were killed making a bomb. Why not ask him?

FEAR and Unforgiveness, and separation from groups they oppose,
but this is mutual. http://www.iwise.com/KPLo1

The more extreme the Fear and Unforgiveness between groups,
the worse they incite each other especially through media propaganda
so it becomes a vicious cycle of retribution.

This closed loop can still be broken by forgiveness, one person at a time.
it just takes one person to forgive, and let go of fear, for others to respond,
to stop the negative rejection and reactions on both ends of the spectrum.

Sometimes it is easier to see where the pressures and fears came
from looking back in retrospective, forgiving first then correcting the
conflicts that escalated into retribution out of fear that things could not be changed except by force. When both political sides do that, and both blame the other, it just escalates.
When people on both sides make the mutual commitment to work on solutions, that multiplies also.

Dear MACAULAY I happen to be a real fan of the old Jeffersonian/Constitutional approach to natural laws and govt. So thanks for your message.

Buddhists also seek Freedom from suffering for all living beings.
But that doesn't make someone antigovernment.

What a Buddhist monk said about American activism is much of it is based on anger instead of compassion. If we lose our sense of humanity, we can become like the political tyrants we oppose.

The difference is having equal compassion for all people, or what Christians call unconditional love by divine forgiveness that is free of sin or biased conditions.

I agree with the spirit of what you are saying
but in America many have lost that all inclusive respect for all fellow humans
so this comes across as hateful hypocrites. when I read the words of Jefferson and others, even where these condemn wrongful actions they are written with dignity and respect for humanity.

How can we embrace and include each other in this same spirit to restore unity.

I have my own beliefs and opinions, but I'd really like to hear from others.

We cannot divide against each other.
The Revolution was won when more people united than divided.

The trouble with the modern union and pop-culture educated left is that they have been indoctrinated to be tolerant of all sorts of antisocial behavior for so long that they can't recognize a crazy person from a 60's radical. As a matter of fact maybe there is no difference between the bald on top, long hair on the sides former SDS Weatherman punk and a crazy person.

As if the fear isn't mutual, @C_Clayton_Jomes
And this habit of deeming the other side's fears as unfounded?

Don't both political sides incite and oppress each other with this
same exclusive attitude, and thus incite more rebellion and rejection,
each blaming the other?

Typical far left Obama drone post! Boring!

So you support the far left and their bombings like Bill Ayers, no surprise there.
