Battle of Teutoburg Forest (9 AD)

"And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth."

As a lifetime archer and bowhunter "The Battle of Agincourt" is one of my favorites.

I guess some lessons were not learned when it came to German Forests.

My uncle was in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest and it gave him nightmares.

I loved the movie When Trumpet’s Fade, had a great depiction of fighting there.

While some of the film was a little unrealistic, much of it was not, it gave you a feel for what it must have been like.

The Romans under Germanicus got their revenge at the Battle of the Weser River a/k/a Battle of Idistaviso.. Germanicus effectively repacified Germany between the Rhine and the Elba. Unfortunately, for the Romans at least, Tiberius, jealous of Germanicus’ success, some say, recalled him back to Rome and abandoned the gains. A fateful mistake.

Tiberius had Germanicus poisoned, being the paranoid psychopath that he was. Rome was said to have felt like America did when JFK was shot when it was announced he died at 32 from natural causes.

His son would become infamous when Caligula succeeded Tiberius after spending years under house arrest

A flawed comparison. The two battles were very different in just about every key aspect.
