No, I think the pols would just continue to game the system. I have given up voting for the lesser of two evils. If they present me with somebody worth voting for positively, okay, but I haven't voted for president for two elections because this is just dumb.

I've decided democracy does not work. A lot of people are starting to think that, I've noticed. At least not with universal suffrage, so that the mob has the vote and votes to give themselves all the money they don't have, through stealing from the rich or voting deficits. I'd like to see democracy go back to the original concept, where only stakeholders with property, who pay taxes, have the vote, not the homeless and welfare-dependent and felons as now.

Also fear of spanking your kids. No wonder teens misbehave, they think they run the show. I grew up with a fear of God from my parents. Do wrong, and receive wrath. Um, no thanks. I also grew up not to want to disappoint my parents, I wanted to be a good kid.

If we all voted it would change everything. It would change how the politicians behave and would make the citizens more involed interested and educated. Australia fines anyone who doesnt vote and it works. The politicians work for the moderate votes. What do our politicians do? They pander to the extremes because the moderates dont vote.

Others have touched on this. I think it is an entitlement mentality coupled with a permanent political class in the central government. They pass legislation or write regulations with great sounding titlles, but that are often destructive to society as a whole. Their only real purpose is to increase the power, prestige, influence, and personal wealth of elected or appointed professional politicians and bureaucrats..

But because of the entitlement mentality they have deliberately created, nobody challenges them. They expect to have theirs and be long gone before the house of cards they build comes crashing down. And they know from experience that it won't be them who gets blamed for that but it will be whomever is unlucky enough to be in those positions at the time.
