Thats fair. FALs do well in the battle rifle class in carbine and Kalashnikov matches.

I saw one, the guy had put rosewood furniture on it. It was beautiful.
I have a surplus SLR wood stock set but it's far from beautiful....I prefer the Brit pebble pattern stock set.

I bought huge when Tapco blew out all their inch pattern parts many years ago. I still have a big box of parts, mostly all new.

While I truly love the look and the platform of the PTR91 myself, I think the AR10 is just the more practical choice due to aftermarket support. It's also the original AR platform. The AR platform was originally designed around the 7.62/.308 NATO round, not the little 5.56. If I was to buy an AR rifle at all today it would be an AR10 not an AR15. For CQB I would drop right down to 5.7x27 or .30 M1 Carbine territory, in a subgun/SBR type of format.

But....that's just me. 😏

With that said, my only "modern" battle rifle is an AK47 I built myself, with a Swedish Mauser doing sniper duty on the side. And I ain't too worried about what I need to have next, if ya know what I mean.

There are several good choices

Even the old communist SKS makes a good democrat wacko adjustment tool in a pinch that is not very expensive
Was my first rifle, actually. And I loved it and apparently it loved me too. 😄

LOL.....It depends on how drunk the monkeys at CAI were when it was built. :laughing0301:

That bunch buggered up many a parts kit....Hard pass.
Built by PTR not Century ( FMP parts sourced by Century & then Rifles built by PTR using their G3 Receiver and Trunnion & Barrel . So no Drunk monkeys involved

Yep! Very hard to find that design in this country that isn't a
hack like that, without spending MUCHO dinero.

A real battle rifle....FAL....Right arm of the free world.

I prefer an inch pattern SLR because it takes both inch and metric mags.

1959 L1A1 built on a matching parts kit with Imbel receiver.
Agreed. FAL all the way.

I have a 61 BSA L1A1 SLR and have kept my Military Marinyl Black plastic furniture ( Stock with Rack Number ) even though I have decent Correct British Wood Furniture with super nice wood carry handle . I also have a real AR10 ( circa 1997 ArmaLite AR10A2 20” Rifle with original geeen furniture . And I still recommend the CA3 ( HK G3 ) which I have and really dig

In the $50.00 AK parts kit (with barrel) days we used to have build parties. Everyone would kick in with a tool. I used to bring a hydraulic press....Good times. :)

I still have a 94/14 Swede Carbine buried in the gun locker.

Srsly google CA3 Rifle and look at how it gets you in Real HK / G3 game for under 1000.00$

I'm curious as to what battle rifle I should get. Obviously most people prefer carbines, like the AR15, for self/home defense, but I want a rifle that can do more than just defend me and can also be a good hunting rifle. I would rather get a battle rifle than get both a hunting rifle and a defense rifle obviously, so which would you recommend?
