What are your thoughts on the NRA?

My thoughts are that the NRA used to be a good organization concerned with gun training, safety, hunting regulations and sharing gun related information

Then they realized that there was no money in that and began fear mongering that the evil government was going to seize your weapons and only armed citizens can keep the government in check

"From my cold dead fingers" made the NRA billions

The NRA is now mostly a rightwing political organization. I used to belong.

The NRA will endorse a Democrat if the Democrat will defend the right to keep and bear arms. They will give a F rating to a Republican if the Republican does not support that right.

It is too bad that opposition to the right to keep and bear has become an issue of the Left. You would think that all Americans would support the Bill of Rights but the Libtards did not evidently get that memo.

You know absolutely nothing about the NRA with that ignorant statement.

The 2nd Amendment is not about hunting or target shooting or even personal self defense. It is about giving the American people the ability to oppose government tyranny. That is something you Moon Bats have never understood. Maybe you understand it but don't like it because you support big government tyranny and you hate the idea of Americans being able to oppose it.

However, I don't know why you stupid Moon Bats are so concerned. It is not enough for the American people to have the means to oppose out of control government but they must also the will. Our country has become a nation of pussies that don't have the will to stop this filthy tyrannical government. There is nothing for you Moon Bats to be concerned with. You will get to keep your filthy big government because the American people don't have the courage to put an end to it. No need to take away the firearms.

I know quite a bit about the NRA and saw a shift in their focus and literature in the 1960s

After JFK was killed and MLK and Bobby Kennedy shortly after there started to be a big push for more gun regulation. The NRA realized that this would be their cash cow. Flood the gun public with literature predicting the government is going to take your guns and overstating your personal threat and the threat of the evil government

The NRA evolved from a gun safety and information group to a political lobby

I'm debating a life membership at the moment and was curious as to everyone's thoughts on the NRA. Any life members here? Anyone completely against the NRA but recommends another gun rights association?
They just came out with a flex payment method for membership and I'm debating it now because its affordable both short and long term.
What are your thoughts?

I am a life member....great organization.....and they don't send that much mail.....If you like your gun rights I would support the NRA and the 2nd Amendment foundation, the two groups doing the most to defend our civil right of self defense.....I also support other groups as well......

As an avid hunter I used to belong..paid my dues loyally for about 12 years. Once they got too political, I quit. WHen I heard about how someone was going to take my guns year after year I became disgusted with that type of lying. And belonging to the NRA has nothing in common with joining a union as some other low info voter posted. If the NRA gets less radical, I may reconsider.

Do you really think that you will be left alone with your hunting guns.......do you support any other group protecting your right?

"What are your thoughts on the NRA?"

They need to get out of politics and get back to guns.

American Rifleman is an excellent publication and well worth the membership fee, pity it's full of crazy, delusional, tinfoil hat conspiracy theories and lies about the president 'taking away' guns.

Yes...if they get out of politics the guns won't be there to get back to.....

Looks like NRA fear mongering has taken hold

The NRA is the most effective lobbyists in Washington. They have been kicking ass and taking names for a long time now. Lately they have been particularly effective. For this reason I give them money over and above my membership dues.

They are the only charitable organizations give my hard earned money to and it's because I never feel that it is wasted.

I was a member for decades. Quit when their focus was shifted from safe enjoyable use of guns to anything it takes to sell more guns. Even the most adamant gun enthusiast knows there are some people who should never have a gun. The NRA fights every effort to protect the public from crazies with guns. I would hope that some day I can rejoin, but that doesn't look like it will be any time soon.

They realize, as you should, that you cannot give an inch. The gun grabbers will always want more.

The stupid hypocritical liberals always chant shit about education. NRA educates on the proper use of guns, and especially what it means to be a gun owner in the USA. You would think the left, who supposedly stand for education, would promote the NRA.

The fucking left blame the NRA for cops being shot by animals whose skin is the color of shit.

Yet, it was the rallies where the people whose skin is the color of shit that chanted kill cops!

Show us anywhere, where any NRA rally ever chanted to kill cops.

The left wing is made of up of pure fucking losers. Double talking, hypocritical, piece of shit losers, who are by large puppets for their fucking socialist democrats.

The NRA exists to protect the 2nd amendment, and that is good for america. I don't think the lifetime membership is a good deal, just pay year by year.

they also have some pretty good discounts on things not related to guns.

They were once a great organization, providing education and support to members. Heck, they even supported limited gun control back in the day. Now, they are simply the political wing of gun manufacturers, spreading fear among the ignorant to drum up more sales.

Funny that half the people here complain that they are too soft, and the other half complain that they are too hard nosed. Sounds to me like they are right in the money.

i like NRA and I support them , also like GOA and support them , of the 2 I like GOA better as they are more aggressive and no compromise . NRA is the biggest , I'd become a life member of GOA [500 dollars , life member] and also support NRA in yearly membership or contributions . I also support my States gun owners group . NRA does gun training and they are the biggest and best gun training , gun safety trainers in the USA , probably most English speaking countries . As already noted by another poster , the '2nd Amendment' is not about huntin , target shooting or self defense although its good that peoples firearms can be used for those purposes .

Some of my friends were avid hunters and when I went to their house they usually showed me their guns. It was almost like a love affair the way they handled them pointing out the features that I had heard before. I had guns also but they were just tools, like a pair of pliers. Anyone encounter anything like that?

A good mechanic will talk about his tools the same way. Many people such as myself are collectors of guns. What is wrong or crazy about someone who collects things talking about their collections with affection? Nothing.

oh , and GOA life membership is also a payment plan if you like . Checkout 'GOA' for details and its head guy Larry Pratt is excellent .
