They are the most powerful and most influential pro-gun lobbying force in the USA.I'm debating a life membership at the moment and was curious as to everyone's thoughts on the NRA. Any life members here? Anyone completely against the NRA but recommends another gun rights association?
They just came out with a flex payment method for membership and I'm debating it now because its affordable both short and long term.
What are your thoughts?
Gave up my membership more than ten years ago, more because I had not hunted or target shot in some years than because of its increasing looniness.
It is a highly effective lobby reaching out to some very irrational folks.
Well, there are fewer guns in fewer homes each year, so the end result is clear.
They used to be an organization that promoted the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear firearms for self protection, recreation and military readiness.
Nowadays they promote sansculottism in the streets.
"no man having a natural right to be the judge between himself and another, it is his natural duty to submit to the umpirage of an impartial third."
-- Thomas Jefferson; from letter to Francis Gilmer (June 7, 1816)

Sansculottism......Interesting word. Methinks you don't understand what it means.

It was how the French elite referred to the poor revolutionaries. The poor folk didn't wear the fancy pants of the wealthy. Thus "sans culottes" , without pants. It was used as a derogatory term.

That would be sans pantalon. Culottes meant the same thing it does today, knee pants. The rich wore fancy knee pants with frills, or culottes, and the poor wore long pants.
Well yes, except for founding them, and keeping them going. The ones who plow the fields, dig the ditches, and moderate the boards have other concerns eh?Yes, I know. The main point is it points out the elitist POV of the poster. Elitists are arrogant twats who contribute nothing to society.
"What are your thoughts on the NRA?"
They need to get out of politics and get back to guns.
American Rifleman is an excellent publication and well worth the membership fee, pity it's full of crazy, delusional, tinfoil hat conspiracy theories and lies about the president 'taking away' guns.

Look who's back. Gun Owners of America is a better choice than NRA
[
Claims of impending gun confiscation is much better for gun sales than any advertisement ever could be. That's why gun manufacturers give a lot more to the NRA and right wing politicians than they spend on any other kind of marketing expense.
