Zone1 What are 'traditional American values'?

There is where we differ, and it could be semantics, if you wish.

I see "values" as something for personal development and growth, eventual worth to self and society.

What you present are more "attributes" on a larger society scale.
What I suggested are "values" on a personal character scale.

IMO - of course.
Yes we are likely quibbling over semantics. Values to me are those factors in our lives that we defend as valuable as individuals, family, community, citizens which is why they are values. Good character traits will prompt a person to embrace and defend good values. But I don't think they are one and the same.

Being of a good character will help a person be a better parent.

But that children benefit from having a loving, responsible biological mother and father in the home is a value that a wise society promotes. That children benefit from having a religious faith, positive role models, real education rather than indoctrination are values that a wise society promotes. That children benefit from extended family is a value that a wise society promotes. That children benefit from cherished traditions and wholesome activities are values that a wise society promotes. That children benefit from loving discipline, training in responsibility and accountability, and respect for authority are values that a wise society promotes.

A community that embraces and promotes such traditional American values is not likely to produce thugs, brats, vandals, arsonists, thieves, and other destructive/violent/dangerous/murderous hoodlums.

What are 'traditional American values'?

Kids today are at a severe disadvantage. Each generation is influenced by the generation that came before it. When I was growing up, the world was a fairly ordered, stable place. It made sense. Our parents were The Greatest Generation, America was the unquestioned shining beacon on the hill, and everything closed on Sundays so that you could take a sunday drive with your family after going to church, then visit with other relatives.

But kids growing up today have none of that. They see the world falling apart, its leaders crazy idiots who don't what they are doing and fighting among ourselves, while our teachers rip on what a bad place America is as everyone pulls in a different direction going nowhere.

To restore American values, you first have to restore the core integrity of American people.
  1. Pride in America.
  2. Faith in your leaders.
  3. A strong family unit.
  4. Church and morality rank high.
  5. Stable and controlled borders.
  6. A self-disciplined lifestyle based on personal responsibility.
  7. Freedom for achievement, freedom of thought, and self-actualization.
Out of these 7 cornerstones comes the basis for American values. A strong America is a strong leader; before America can lead the way in helping others, it must first assure its own survival and integrity.

Not sure where your rating comes from but this site says they are #24 (top 5 for Higher Education). Way above NV, #38.
my rating comes from living there and putting a kid through school.....30-40 years ago they were top 5....they fell into the bottom 10 through the years.......and who gives a fuck about Nevada?...its about California....

They should go in debt to keep you on when they don't have the income or savings for doing such ... ???

Rule of sound business and economics;
An employer pays the least they need to based on the cost to them of replacing you.

If you get $6 per hour and someone else will do the same amount and quality of work for $5 per hour, guess what. ???
(Before answering place yourself in the employer's shoes. Will you pay more out of your pocket when you don't have to ?)
so you just verified what i said....so whats your point?...

I bet the large lion's share of the money is being spent on those administrators which is the case in far too many cases. Of course they believe the money is being well spent.
You’d lose that bet. For someone who claims to be intellecutally honest, you sure do lie quite a bit.

And to restore these values, you voted for someone who:

  1. ThinksAmerica isn’t great (thus has no pride in the nation)
  2. Thinks leaders are incompetent
  3. Bangs porn stars
  4. Mocks your religion
  5. Does believe in controlled borders but has no inkling of how to go about that.
  6. Has no self discipline and takes zero responsibility
  7. Inherited a bundle of money and wants to outlaw any dissent
Your “values” are just hobbies sonny.

Character traits, though important in order to have good values, are not necessarily values in my opinion. The importance of God, country, family, morality/decency, transparency, honorable attention to duty and responsibilities, respect for authority, liberty, protection of unalienable and legal rights are all values that make a country great.
Did you consider any of that when you voted for Shin Splints who banged a porn star while married to another woman?

You may want to see some actual evidence before you make that bet. I guess you'd prefer Trump's solution, fire the Inspector Generals, the ones who actually look for waste, fraud, and abuse.

Got it, the Dresden school rating system, that's the one I should have checked. And why care about schools just because you live there.

can you prove me wrong from what i said ..which was,,their public school ratings went from top 5 in the 70's to bottom 10 in the early 2000's?...or are you another who likes to talk?...

The American values mentioned by the OP have never existed.
Its pretty much how I grew up. Not to say there wasn't problems, just the opposite but all those things mentioned was my childhood on the good side of things. People need to focus on what was good in their lives as a child instead of the bad.

The alternative was worse. That is an example of what is wrong with our nation. We need to focus on putting people in office and in our political parties who at least try to live and promote good values. I honestly do not believe most of the bad about politicians and celebrities that the media likes to feed on. Good people need to get involved in Party politics and push out the bad.

I backed what I said with a national news source while you just made an unsupported claim. Then you ask me to prove you wrong rather than you having to prove you are right. Obviously, you are just one who likes to talk. :laughing0301:

look at the date on your poll and think about the times i mentioned.......

Zone One everybody so keep it civil.

What's wrong with American youth these days? Many believe it is because we have taken basic American values away from them.

Another school shooting, more vandalism/destructiveness, more general lawlessness, more anti-American demonstrations and attacks on Jews, Christians, others who are easy targets. These are young people who hate their skin, want to change the gender they were born, who exalt the worst our society produces and despise those promoting pro-American ideas. Too many have become lawless, violent, destructive, dangerous, murderous.

So what is the solution? Many, myself included, believe it is because American culture and basic American values are being dismantled and there is nothing positive and good to inspire the young, encourage positive, constructive thinking, appreciate the bright future their country offers.

Many of us believe we should return to allowing prayer, or at least a moment of silence, in school, make God welcome again, promote recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem and appreciation/love for the flag and the free, noble, great Nation it represents.

Also, what kids need is summed up in this piece I saw at another site--author unknown:

"What are we missing? What do children need?" He went on and on about mental illness, the Juvenile Justice System, gun control, education reform, blah, blah, blah.

Folks, none of that mumbo jumbo makes a lick of sense. Here is what children need:
1. Children need a mother and a father who love each other and work together as a team.
2. Children need a bicycle, neighbors, and cousins.
3. Children need a grandma to bake with and a grandpa to take em fishing.
4. Children need a church, a Sunday School Class, and a truth telling Preacher.
5. Children need a dinner time with home cooked food, prayer, and conversation.
6. Children need Sunday afternoon football and fried chicken.
7. Children need books to read and coloring pages.
8. Children need summers at the beach and bazooka bubble gum.
9. Children need a trip to Arlington and Fourth of July Fireworks.
10. Children need fire pits, smores, ghost stories, the drive in, and real popcorn.
11. Children need discipline from their parents.
12. Children need chores, a job, a way to earn what they want.
13. Children need education that recognizes mama and daddy as the authority, God as the creator, and the Bible as the roadmap.
This is not about some agenda, this is about children. Get back to basics: faith, family, & good ole fashioned fun.

In other words, basic traditional American values.

Independence as opposed to communalism.

Tolerance, not forced acceptance.

work ethic, not expecting handouts.

It has been proven that the blob banged a porn star while married to another woman.

Your believing it happened is not necessary.

And no, the alternative was not worse.

Along with the cash register needing to tell them how to make change*, there are other applications where mental knowledge of how to do math can come in handy.

* If you pay cash and the tab is $5.37, try giving them the quarter, dime, and two pennies along with a $10, and see the fluster on their faces - until the machine tells them what they have, what to give you back.
Because people don't actually pay cash any more.
