I think thats totally different from being racist. We have an innate negative reaction to people that are not like us. However, it took white racists to dehumanize people.White racists have uses Asians as their model minority. Cleared my throat and coughed in an elevator today and got my first ugly look from someone who clearly was afraid I had coronavirus. Because I'm petty, I decided to cough some more, and as they were leaving, I yelled "racism is more contagious."

The thing is, every group has it's racists - us vs. them, the Outsiders, etc. And it's human nature to view the Other as inferior.
Not necessarily - I think it underlies racism. Especially if we view them as a "threat" - we apply negative qualities to them. I think in some cases - the case of African slavery, it's a little different because racism was created as a means to culturally justify the continued enslavement of African people long after the rest of the world was ending it. If you define them as subhuman, "child like", incapable of self determination - it's easy to justify slavery and maintain it and defend it as well as defend the brutality.
