How about examining the idea that the people employed by the fossil fuel industries, fearful of their own futures, have gone to some effort to convince you and other politically polarized individuals that this is a political issue when it is not. They do this because confirmation bias and the already hardened animosity between the left and right in American politics makes it very unlikely you will objectively examine the issues they've pre-labeled and that you will firmly resist such movements at the ballot box. The same movement also makes it very likely that our candidates will sort themselves out over the same issues and thus for conservatives to vote for someone supporting action to end AGW - or liberals a supporter - they will have to cross party lines. This isn't about the environment as we all know. It's all politics as we also all know.
