We need to change the Statue of Liberty.....

Yeah, although it says that it doesn't change the fact that there were immigration Laws in effect at the time of the Statue's construction just like there was (is) in every other developed nation on the planet. Next nonsensical thread....

Tell ya what.......................tell me where the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty is wrong.

Tell me where it says that your people are right, and tell me where the immigrants are wrong.

Go ahead...................I'll wait........................

The poem is just that. It isn't a statute.

The guy thinks a poem should trump our immigration Laws. Tell me what is rational about the entire premise of this ridiculous thread. Laws were in place when the statue was erected, and I'd argue they were followed much more seriously than they are now, so I'm not sure what Aloonysailor is complaining about. If you want to support illegals financially then support them, but don't expect others to follow you down your path of lunacy.

Check into immigration laws sometime.

List of United States immigration legislation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The first law restricting immigration didn't show up until 1870.

America's Founding Fathers and the Pilgrims were ALL illegal immigrants. North America was the nations of Native Americans. Pilgrims came in illegally along with everyone thereafter. If you would dispute this, how would Latin immigrants coming in illegally now, then declaring where they live is a new country be ANY different than what our founders did to the Native Americans?

Oh my God you truly are a dunderhead. There were NO LAWS prohibiting the early Pilgrims and Founding Fathers from coming here. The Indians had no immigration laws on the books. They had no Constitution. They had no statutes. Therefore, no laws were broken so no illegal acts took place. Are you really that far out there that you didn't know that?

Here is the inscription that is at the base of the Statue of Liberty....................

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door
!"

The New Colossus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The New Colossus" is a sonnet by American poet Emma Lazarus (1849–87), written in 1883.[2] In 1903, the poem was engraved on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the lower level of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

Now................these refugee kids that are currently flooding the border certainly sound like what the statue (and our country) are supposed to stand for. These kids are poor, huddled and fleeing violence and murder in their own country. President Bush Jr. signed a LAW into effect in 2008 that covered situations like this, and it was for kids from any country that did not border the United States.

Sorry...................but if we can't allow these kids to stay, we're going to have to do one of 2 things, either (a) take down the plaque on the front of the Statue of Liberty, or (b) admit that we've gone so far away from our core values that we've become a nation of hypocrites.

Sure -- take it down, that poem was never supposed to replace the Constitution or meant to be immigration law.

Please provide evidence that Indians had no type of legal system.

Please provide evidence that they did. More specifically, provide documentation that they had laws prohibiting immigration.

The poem was the brainchild of a liberal woman's personal opinions and emotional sentiments.

You made the claim, you have to prove it. Nice use of a logical fallacy to try and shift the burden of proof.

It is blatantly obvious that American Indians had a judicial system, and you will find no reliable source debunking that idea. Thanks for demonstrating how flawed the U.S. education system is.
