Watch this... Hey libs, do you have any examples of successful socialist countries? List them.

Well, I would think the bottom line for "success" would be the happiness of its citizens, so let's see what this survey says: Visit the Top 10 Happiest Countries in the World
  1. Denmark
  2. Switzerland
  3. Iceland
  4. Norway
  5. Finland
  6. Canada
  7. The Netherlands
  8. New Zealand
  9. Australia
  10. Sweden
And since it appears that "socialism" is whatever government spending exceeds military, I guess those would qualify as "socialist".

So I guess we need to specify definitions.

  1. "a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
    synonyms: leftism, welfarism; More
    • "policy or practice based on the political and economic theory of socialism.
      synonyms: leftism, welfarism; More

    • "(in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism."
Can anyone find an example of a country that has ever regulated the means of production by the community as a whole as opposed to private capitalists or unelected bureaucrats?

I've never seen a triangle with four sides either It doesn't exist for the same reason cars don't run if you fill them with water. How would the "community as a whole" run a factory? So-called "socialists" can't even tell you. They just waive their magic wand and tell you what a paradise it would be.
Various forms of democratically managed work places have existed for centuries, and once government levels the playing field in the US, they will bury corporate capitalism.

Workers' self-management - Wikipedia

"Self-management or workers' self-management (also referred to as labor management, autogestión,workers' control, industrial democracy, democratic management and producer cooperatives) is a form of organizational management based on self-directed work processes on the part of an organization's workforce.

"Self-management is a characteristic of many forms of socialism, with proposals for self-management having appeared many times throughout the history of the socialist movement, advocated variously by market socialists, communists, and anarchists.[1]"

They aren't "democratically managed." That's all a bunch of abracadabra. They're run by a bunch of bureaucrats. You don't believe it? Then explain how they choose what products to produce and what designs for those products are used.

The playing field is already level in the US. The arrangements you endorse don't exist here because they can't survive when competing against profit making organizations.

All nations are socialist to some degree

Including the good ole USA
The federal government is 100% socialist, that’s why we have no real freedom or individuality in this country.

And what exactly is it that you want to do but are being prevented from doing because of our "socialist government:?

Invest my own retirement money
Choose what health services options I pay for.
Choose what kind of car I buy.
. . . . .
the list goes on.

But how can a leftist choose to have your money then?

Socialism (collective action and sustenance) is good for some things.

Socialism really sucks for some other things.

Socialism's biggest obstacle is that wee bothersome phrase: "Consent of the governed" .

Q. Why is the "consent of the governed" bothersome?

A. Because the word Socialism has been used for decades as a pejorative, used by ideologues to equate any form of it to the "evil empire" and banana republics, and for the people who fail to understand that we have for centuries been a mixed economy, i.e. having a private sector and a public sector in providing services. The former a for-profit enterprise, and the latter a non profit accountable to the voter

Are conservatives advocating that there be no socialist programs in this country?

What makes you think labor managed firms aren't capable of producing profits? The distinction lies in how profits are distributed. In top-down capitalism a relatively small number of individuals sitting on a board of directors decides how profits are distributed; in a self-managed enterprise, profits are distributed democratically without input from non-productive parasites.
Workers' self-management - Wikipedia
"The theory of the labor manager firm explains the behavior, performance and nature of self-managed organizational forms.

"Although self-managed (or labor-managed) firms can coincide with worker ownership (employee ownership), the two are distinct concepts, and one need not imply the other.

"According to traditional neoclassical economic theory, in a competitive market economy, ownership of capital assets by labor (the workforce of a given firm) should have no significant impact on firm performance."
