It was an obvious set-up. God put a couple of barely self-aware beings who cannot even understand deception in a closed environment with another being intent on making them break the only rule.

Indeed.

Poor parenting. What a god.

Thank all the gods Adam broke the rule and sinned, or none of us would be here.

Not that he is real.

When I became aware of the concept of original sin it all seemed like a bad excuse built on the shakiest foundation.

All of your arguments are based upon ridiculous renderings of the Bible.

That's probably because the original meaning of that account was lost through time.

Original sin is man's failure to take accountability when he makes a mistake. If everyone took accountability when they made mistakes or did wrong the world would transform itself overnight.

I can't think of a more solid foundation than that.

a&e chose their path and asked to know both from the fruit of their choice as granted for the mission to triumph one over the other for their own determination to live freely in the Everlasting - the same fat for humanity - for a free spirit to be admitted into the Everlasting.

surly they were rewarded for their bravery.

Not even the God of creation can foretell "free will choices"...........free will = free thinking. God can know what you are thinking at any certain time but can't control what you will be thinking in the future. Its detailed in scripture.........unambiguous and obvious, man being endowed with free will creates his own fate when he freely makes choices between right and wrong, evil/good, righteousness/unrighteousness.

One single passaged demonstrates that God did not plan for man to sin. God created man totally and completely innocent and placed him in an environment that would support his every requirement for life and life's necessities. With no law, except one simple law, there can be no sin possible unless you break that one law. Sin did not enter the world until man decided freely to disobey the one rule that would bring about his death if disobeyed. That one rule? "You can eat of any tree in the garden, but you cannot eat of the tree of the knowledge between good and evil." Eve.......being deceived was not accountable for the sin.......it was not until Adam with foreknowledge decided to eat from the tree being the head of the family........sin entered the world.

Why did God place the tree in the garden in the first place? Its really quite obvious. God created man in His image. One of the things this implies (free will) is that man is given a free choice to decide whether to follow God or not. Along with "free will", by necessity comes law.........without law there can be no choice. Right/wrong, good/evil, etc., always exists, but unless we are made aware of the choice through law, we cannot be held responsible for keeping or breaking the law. The reason that animals can't sin, children can't sin.....until they reach the age of reason, they are not responsible because there is no comprehension of the law (i.e., the tree of knowledge between good and evil).

Eve was deceived.........Adam was not, he chose to follow the advise of his wife instead of the only law he was to obey. Being "one flesh" though marriage.....both paid the price for breaking the law of God.

As far as knowing that free will exists and God did not plan for man to sin, one passage confirms that Sin was not a product of predestination by the God of Creation. "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented (turn away) the Lord that He had made man on the earth. And it grieved Him at His heart." -- Genesis 6:5-6

If one has foreknowledge ..........one can't be sorry when that knowledge becomes reality.

Adam and Eve aren't real. They never existed. Adam and Eve represent the idea of the first humans to contemplate God.

Come on .. Its a morality tale.
Exactly......you just demonstrated free will and the choice not to believe the God of creation, you freely choose unrighteousness over righteousness when you refuse to accept the truth revealed in scripture as TRUTH. To you its nothing but a story because the very thought of being judged does not agree with your character. You either accept or reject that Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself so "you" could have the opportunity for eternal fellowship with God. You have chosen your "god" with a little "g", the god of this world and fellowship with his angels.

God does not want robots.......He wants free will choices. "For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but, when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding." -- 2 Cor. 10:12 In other words, the buck stops with YOU, you have no one to blame regardless of what you profess to believe........you will be judged by your free will actions and the wheat will be separated from the chaff.

.
metaphysical spirituality is present in all beings and responsible for the physiological development after the first life form was initiated and will occur wherever conditions are conducive for development.

the mythological a&e were the first of their kind and a guide for future development free from the trappings of misguided religious zealots that would depict their beginning as inspired by a serpent for them to cast disparagement than the true quest of self determination by all means than those depicted by the regressive desert religions.

Do YOU believe Adam and Eve is an historical account?
Indeed........if there was not a "first" did the egg lay the chicken? What? You believe in the dogma of EVOLUTION, void of any evidence to support that religion? A religion that starts like this........Once upon a time billions of years ago, everything that has ever been came from a little ball of energy called the "cosmic egg".

This energy was so hot that not even the elements could exist..........No one knows where it came from. No one knows just how long it sat around. For some undetermined reason it suddenly exploded and began to expand, no one knows why.

Wait.....there's more, in that explosion only 2 things were created, hydrogen and helium. There was no carbon (the basic element required for life), nitrogen, nickel, iron or uranium. These 2 gases expanded equally throughout an empty space in all directions at enormous speed. In the beginning Hydrogen was the most common......somehow, no one knows how, form these 2 elements alone the stars created themselves. (and then......magically the star dust contained all the known elements that exist today). Nuclear fusion is a grand thing indeed. Except when atoms are observed releasing energy in an explosion......there are no new elements ever created from the explosion. Then galaxies created themselves, our solar system created itself. Then life magically evolved from non living matter.......no one knows how. And that first "microscopic" example of life.....evolved....all the way into people. No creator or creating force is required in this fairy tale as nature simply created itself all from 2 elements........Hydrogen and Helium, which came from nothing......but GRAVITY according to Stephen Hawking. But he could never explain just how gravity came into existence....which is an observable and quantifiable force as determined by its potential effect.

Do you really believe that a STAR can burn for billions of years without exhausting its source of fuel? Question? Why can Stars be observed burning out..........exploding, but not 1 new star has ever been witnessed being born? With the trillions of stars and galaxies that exist......a new star would by necessity have to be born with frequency, yet no one has ever witnessed the actual birth of a star. The excuse? Not enough time has past? Really? It takes billions and billions of years for the light from these distant stars to reach earth......yet none, zero..........new stars have been observed. With another fairy tale used to explain this.......... Nebulas are star nurseries. :abgg2q.jpg:

By the time Adam and Eve came along the Sumerians had a written language, agriculture, irrigation and sailboats.

*Massive Eye Roll*

Would you like a massage and your feet rubbed by the creator as well? Perhaps a side of fries?

You sound like those in today's society who blame all of the individual decisions made on society.. as if individuals cannot overcome their surroundings.

Boy does that make you the biggest American Conservative on God's green earth.

But, you're out to lunch on what original sin means as far as it's manifestation on people.

I don't think I am out to lunch on that. Man knows right from wrong and when he violates it rather than rejecting the concept he argues he didn't violate it. I see that all the time and that's what Genesis captured in the account of the fall of man.
