Because of the sheer volume of information and documents in this ongoing saga, I'm taking the liberty of starting a controlled thread with an index of information. Now, people don't need to dig through threads to find information and links, some of which have been posted numerous times.
For starters, the following is a preliminary listing of the “rogues gallery” of the Warmergate scandal. If you have other candidates for this list or further information on the current crop, please PM them to me for consideration.
Philip D. Jones: Director of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) and a Professor in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. Contributing author to the IPCC’s 3rd Assessment Report (TAR) and a key contributor in its Summary for Policymakers (SPM).
Michael E. Mann: Director of Penn State University's interdepartmental Earth System Science Center. Inventor of the (in)famous “Hockey Stick Graph”. Deeply involved in aspects of the IPCC’s TAR. A founder and contributor to RealClimate.org, an environmentalist shill site, directly connected to Al Gore’s Environmental Media Services.
Benjamin D. Santer: Researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Lead Author of Chapter 8 of 1995 IPCC Working Group I Report. Accused by Science & Environmental Policy Project of deleting phrases, that expressed doubt of the anthropogenic nature of climate change, to make the report conform to the IPCC’s SPM.
Kevin E. Trenberth: Head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), University of Colorado, Boulder. Lead author of the 2001(3rd) and 2007(4th) IPCC’s Scientific Assessment of Climate Change. Has declared the debate over and written “the IPCC has spoken.” Also, an apparent supporter of slipping AGW propaganda into otherwise mundane news and weather reports: “It seems like there is scope for a number of short bits about various topics that could be folded into the news when appropriate, as certain events occur…”
Jonathan Overpeck: Director of the University of Arizona’s Institute for the Study of Planet Earth (ISPE). Was a coordinating lead author, Chapter 6 (Paleoclimate), for the IPCC’s fourth assessment report (2007). Hired by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder, Colorado to establish and build their Paleoclimatology Program.
Keith Briffa: Semi-Retired Deputy to Jones at the CRU. Creator of the Carbon Capture Report website. Has performed tree ring research in concert with Mann. Some are now speculating that he is the insider who leaked the CRU e-mails and source codes.
Tom Wigley: Climatologist at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), which also serves as a manager for NCAR. Holds to the most pessimistic view that AGW is beyond reversal, and calls for the most draconian measures to halt what he claims is beyond halting.
The Leaker: Originally posted the 130+ gigs of e-mails, documents and yet-to-be deciphered codes upon which the CRU data was based. First on the RealClimate site (to rub their noses in it no doubt), then on various other sites, from a server in Russia. Is he an outside hacker or insider whistle blower? Is he even a he?
