Consequences of Trump win starting to occur?

China can withhold many products in the short run

But that will only accelerate the loss of market as alternate sources are developed in friendler countries
For decades (if not centuries), no country has EVER produced products at lower prices than China. Be ready to pay more for all of these products.....out of your pocket:

Some of the most popular products the U.S. imports from China include:
  • Machinery and electrical equipment
This category includes many common household devices, such as laser printers, countertop juicers, and vacuum cleaners.

  • Smartphones
In 2023, the U.S. imported $50.2 billion worth of smartphones from China.

  • Toys and games
In 2023, the U.S. imported $33.39 billion worth of toys, games, and sports equipment from China.

  • Furniture, lighting, and prefabricated buildings
In 2023, the U.S. imported $20.29 billion worth of furniture, lighting, and prefabricated buildings from China.

  • Chemicals, plastics, rubber, and leather goods
This was one of the top commodity sectors in U.S. imports from China in 2022.

  • Food
China is a major supplier of certain foods, such as apple juice, garlic, canned mandarin oranges, fish, and shrimp.

India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia along with many other nations can produce anything china can at the same low prices

Thats not my ideal solution because i want to make more products in America once again

But almost anywhere is better than china

AI generated response:

  • Product Complexity:
While basic goods might be readily produced at competitive prices, highly complex or technology-intensive products might still be more expensive to manufacture outside of China due to potential limitations in technology access.
Factors affecting price competitiveness:
  • Specific product type:
Some products are naturally more suited for production in certain countries due to existing expertise and raw material availability.

  • Quality standards:
Maintaining high quality standards can be crucial for competing with Chinese products in the U.S. market.

  • Logistics and shipping costs:
Efficient logistics and transportation can impact the final price of a product.

We taught the chinese everything they know about quality standards

Yes we have lost generational knowledge about manufacturing since we began moving production to china

Knowledge we will have to relearn

But thats all the more reason to do so while we still can

China is a mercantilist nation

Meaning their national goal is to destroy competing industry in foreign markets

To that end the central government does subsidize shipping costs to give chinese companies an advantage

But that tactic goes away when the there is no one to compete against

I am not defending China or wishing that it remains well.

What I am doing is showing you the damage that Americans will suffer by doing this. Having said that, I am not against actions that allow us to go to other countries to buy products. Nonetheless, there is going to be a price to pay and that price may be more than anyone can afford to pay, meaning OUR lives will not be better for it (at least not for some time). With Trump promising to lower inflation and make our lives better NOW, this will not do it NOW. In addition, Trump has shown himself to be incompetent, meaning that even if his aims are positive, he will do it in an incompetent way that will cause more damage than if it was done the right way.

If we dont break the supply chain from china Americans will be at ther mercy for generations

And chicoms have no mercy

Meaning that if things get worse for Americans during the next 4 years and the Democrats can ask in the next election "are you better off now than in 2024?" that it won't matter to you as long as China over the next DECADE is broken down to where they deserve to be, right?

If that is what you believe, kudos to you for being so unselfish that you do not care if the Republicans lose in 2026 and 2028 as long as China get their come-uppance in the future.

Bravo, I am now a fan of yours..............you are an unselfish person thinking of Americans at the cost of Trump.

You do understand that Trump doing it the way he plans to do it, will cause (at first and for likely the next 4 years) a lot of inflation to occur and losses to the farmers and to American companies that use Chinese products now. Some will recover and be better in the long run, but the short run, we will be as fucked (or maybe a bit less) than the Chinese. Are you sure that is what you want?

We are having South Korea trying to teach us how to build Naval Vessels again cheaper. It may not go well.

Who was it that once said “I’d rather be right than president?”

I know we are at a turning point with china and we cant afford to go half-way with business as usual

It's time to bring American manufacturing jobs home.

Doug Casey: Absolutely. China totally dominates this industry.

If the US provokes China by taking actions in the South China Sea or by supporting Taiwan, the Chinese could counter by completely cutting off these elements. That would be very bad for US high-tech industries.

On the other hand, there are plenty of all the rare earth elements in the US, Canada, and the Western Hemisphere. It’s just a question of the economics, politics, and time

China needs trade with us far worse than we need trade with them.

"BANGKOK (AP) — China announced Tuesday it is banning exports to the United States of gallium, germanium, antimony and other key high-tech materials with potential military applications, "

We have seen the CIA abuse military materiel in Ukraine , Afghanistan, Syria , et al so military applications are not one of the top applications that we must have

but at any rate , we can not depend on China or any other countries for mateials that MUST WE HAVE

But it should be up to the war profiteers Raytheon , Halliburton , Honeywell to spend THEIR CAPITAL securing those elements
Who do think imports these materials? The US government does not.

We can make things that make things

Make the tools that are needed in factories overseas

Alternately push automaton to its limit and employ our workers building and servicing robots

That will require higher investment than using cheap labor in India, but pay off for the US later on

Too many of us in America just live for today and always want to take the easy way out

Sounds good, but I doubt it will employ enough Americans to reverse the damage done by globalization.

If we make the product here in America our free market system will find other uses for the extra workers

IMHO- If the US manufacturing base remains overseas, the American People will not recover.

Exactly, China NEEDS the US market to sell the goods they produce. If the US starts buying elsewhere or even worse starts manufacturing things here, then China is screwed and they know it.

Every single one of those things can be made in the US or imported from another country. The only reason that China owns manufacturing of those products is that they employ slave labor to keep their costs low. Do you support slavery? If you're buying Chinese goods then you ARE supporting slavery!
