I can see it might have increased infections by shutting people in with their flea-bitten rats. But the point is that there are diseases for which a lockdown would save lives. COVID-19 was one such disease. It was being spread by person-to-person contact. Trump's completely bungled management of the disease - inlcuding actively opposing lockdowns - led to hundreds of thousand of unneccessary American deaths. People would have been right to be afraid of the virus and the most likely place to find the virus would be crowds of people not wearing masks and not maintaining adequate separation. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died needlessly because Trump's administration gave his reelection higher priority than public health and safety
