Virginia votes to abolish Death Penalty

Right, we know. But this is modern civilization.
While there are 27 states where executions are still legal, over the last 5 year only 9 states have executed anyone. Going back 10 years only 13 states used their right to execute. Most states where executions are legal rarely ever execute anyone.

The states that routinely execute prisoners are Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.

Yes

Is it worth a society sinking down to the level of a killer?
States that have death penalty laws do not have lower crime rates or murder rates than states without such laws. And states that have abolished capital punishment show no significant changes in either crime or murder rates. The death penalty has no deterrent effect.

Even worse, crime rates actually rise due to executions. One study found that, on the average, homicides increased by two or three in months immediately following executions. It has long been known that brutalization of punishment increases crime. In effect, the death penalty legitimizes murder, which inadvertently leads to an increase in homicides.

One who TAKES a life without the cause of self defense has sacrificed His/Her right to live. I care about the Victim. Not the killers.
Eye for an eye Justice does nothing to bring that victim back

If that had been the method used over the last fifty years...many wrongly accused people would not be here today.
Since 1973, 190 former death-row prisoners have been exonerated of all charges related to the wrongful convictions that had put them on death row. If there had been only one appeal most of these innocent inmates would have been put to death by the state.

Speedy executions equate to many wrongful executions.
