Virginia faces a government shutdown if the Democrat-controlled General Assembly fails to pass a budget by June 30, the Virginia Mercury reported. Data center policies may be the dividing line.

“I think there is a component of Democrats that see data centers as a lifeline to the energy industry and they hate that,” Power The Future Executive Director Daniel Turner told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Virginia’s House of Delegates released a budget proposal that would study data centers’ long-term effects on the commonwealth while preserving their exemption from the 5.3% sales tax, the Mercury reported.

Never mind the 150% pay increase they want to give themselves. :laughing0301:

Oh, and looky here, I thought only the gop made "blue-ribbon panels" composed of the very people from the industry most likely to benefit from their decisions. ;)

Blah, whatever they do will be bad for Virginia....Of that you can count on. 😐

You were NOT supposed to notice that.

That's the government, right there.
Fund a study to examine the effects of an industry while also keeping that industry tax-free.

Translation: Fk you, taxpayer.

Fun Fact.
The exemption cost the state an estimated $1.9 billion in 2025 and $1.6 billion annually in lost revenue, with total foregone revenue reaching $2.7 billion from 2015–2024.

So, do you finally see how similar the two crime families are?

Drill baby drill.

Carbon emission caused climate change is a lie.

MIAMI AND NEW YORK WERE NOT UNDERWATER BY 2013.

China has more carbon emissions than ever.

Fossil fuel and nuclear energy are the solution.

Solar and wind are not capable of producing enough energy to meet our needs.

Any state that refuses to build data centers will see businesses leave. The real issue is they make renewable energy obsolete and the green fanatics would rather wreck the economy then see it prosper. Good

If they oppose data centers or tax them they will just go to another state and businesses will follow them. Without data centers you wont have an economy.

There are virtually no jobs at a data center. The cost on local utilities and the environment is high. I'd let flyover states prostitute themselves. As a user of AI i dont care where the horsepower sits as long as it isnt in my backyard here in NC.

Data centers destroy the lefts green energy/socialism plan. They need fossil fuels and nuclear to run them. Green energy is obsolete over night. There goes a major source of power for the socialists. Let them fight them. Its self destruction.

Virginia has more (628 at last count) than any other state.....No mas!

Data centers don’t make green energy obsolete; they make clean, reliable power more valuable. The realistic grid is renewables plus storage, transmission, nuclear, and some backup generation...not fossil fuels forever. Rising electricity demand is an argument for building more low-carbon power, not abandoning it.

Damn, it's worse than I thought!

Virginia has 663 operational data centers and 595 more under construction or planned....
Each business will need one eventually to stay in competition. Its the future.

Do it on your property line.
They can be built underground solving a lot of problems especially the heat they generate. I live in a wealthy neighborhood no commercial construction allowed.
