Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) calls Gov. Whitmer disgusting for her support of a MI Data Center

I think many people here don't understand just how much AI could do besides make AI cat videos.
Having said that, AI companies do make billions from it, and they should find a way to pay for their electric needs themselves instead of having people who will NEVER use AI have to pay for it.

It is said a cell phone has more computing power than all of NASA when we sent men to the moon.

So the question is, why do these massive centers need built all over the country?

Because AI can do anything and the demand for having something that knows everything and can do anything is more than the current infrastructure can handle.

The OP lied. She didn’t call Whitmer personally disgusting. She called her particular position on data centers l disgusting. Fail.
And a lie. The thread is a lie.
It is good that Democrats are not in total lockstep. It is healthy. Unfortunately, they have a long way to go as they move further and further left and nominate crazy people.

Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who last week announced that she’s not running for President in 2028, posed with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Monday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the $16 billion AI data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan, where a 1.4-gigawatt data center will be built on 250 acres of farmland.

Several residents of the rural town (population under 3,000) have been protesting the development since 2025, complaining about a lack of transparency, particularly regarding the data center’s massive energy needs.

Whitmer, who called the OpenAI and Oracle data center “the largest economic project in Michigan history,” said at the ceremony: “I will only ever open Michigan to companies that respect our strict environmental standards and protect our air, land and water. The Barn meets all those high standards.”

The project has been nicknamed the Barn due to its design and placement on former farmland.

Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) responded to the groundbreaking event on social media: “Disgusting. So disappointed in Governor Whitmer's support of data center expansions in our state especially when so many Michiganders are opposed.”

Sigh, as much as I hate to admit it......Just goes to show, a clock is right twice a day.

I'd have a really hard time voting for a hopeful that supported AI Data Centers in opposition to local public sentiment that is against them.

I find it so interesting that Democrats who claim to champion science and learning and knowledge oppose the greatest knowledge vehicle in the history of mankind, which is AI.

But there is another reason for their opposition. The left is working for Communist China who knows it is getting rapidly surpassed on AI by the US. So their solution is to pay/influence gullible leftwingers to protest

No, AI can not just do anything.
Obviously not physical things but it does assist in them. Every aspect of every business you deal with, on the daily has some form of AI in it. and if they don't they are behind the curve.
I suppose if you are just sitting home on SNAP waiting for your next government hand out this may be lost on you.

Bugger off. You've done nothing to address the point.

Which means........
