In my working life I have conducted many downsizing exercises.
The better ones were thought out. Intelligent people looked at all the possible ramifications.
They were all commercial operations where maintaining the service was the central conncern.
This is just an ideological exercise conducted by people who dont give a shit. On behalf of mouth breathers who also dont give a shit.

In the worst of the exercises the sacked employees were rehired a year later after they had enjoyed a trip around the world.

I went down to SS to update my wife's SS card with her new address and last name.

We were down there for four hours because they had roughly 100 people waiting in line and only three employees to process paperwork.

And what I've seen is that when businesses go on cutting sprees, they don't cut the least efficient employees; they cut the ones they have to pay the least in severance.

Government is a business. Anyone who has worked for government has worked with great people and pure bums. And work rules have made seniority and the diverse mentality part of the equation. The cutting going on was nothing when Progs did it. Now it on the Broadway stage as Progs emote. We are living post Covid. And we need to at least retune to pre Covid and even continue further. This is so easy. And yet it is like we are being whipped from our slave masters with many constantly living off the slavery of the past administering it.

I worked from home for years BEFORE COVID. I usually spent more time working that way than when I was at the office.

I didn’t have to attend endless stupid meetings. I didn’t have colleagues stopping by my desk to talk about their weekend.

I got out of bed , showered and went to work. No commute. No stopping for coffee. No going out for lunch.

I usually worked straight through. 7:30 to 5 with a short break for lunch and a couple cigarette breaks during which I took my phone with me and used that time to communicate with vendors and field workers.

In my experience the people who did not work well from home (yes there are those) ALSO did not work well in the office.
