Trump administration plans to cut over 80,000 employees from Veterans Affairs

I have lots of friends that visited a VA hospital in the past five weeks. The majority say services suck, still.

Me? I don't and won't go to the VA. Not only is the nearest VA three hours away, but I can afford private health insurance and have a provider that's 15 minutes away.
Then who gives any ***** what you think?

Only veterans with service related injuries, or who pass means testing requirements can get services at the VA.
Here is what VA says.
What percentage of veterans receive VA benefits?

In FY 2021 there were approximately 19.0 million living Veterans, of which 9.8 million (52%) used at least one VA benefit or service in that year alone. This chart shows how many Veterans used each program. About 7.6 million Veterans used at least one benefit provided by VBA(1). The VBA programs are shown in red.

30% of the federal workforce is made up of veterans.
Are you saying we should just throw our veterans out on the bread lines?

Yes, any Vet working for the government is obviously a slacker.

Profile in slacker, people need to share the stories of the slackers:

  • Retired US Army 1st Sgt.
  • 12 Years Federal employment with the VA
  • Selected for promotion (which means doing a good job)
  • Fired by Musk because the 12 year VA employee and Army retiree was "probationary"
  • Now looking for work in his early 50's
NOTE1 : While the link doesn't say "retired", it takes about 15 years to reach the rank of 1st Sgt. It would be a very rare case indeed for someone to get a promotion to 1st Sgt at 15 years do the required time in grade (IIRC 2 years) then get out shy of 20 years.

NOTE 2: Age assumption comes from enlisting at 18 + 20 Years in the Army + 12 Years in the VA = 50 and it's likely he did a little more than 20 years in the Army.

So the answer is yes. You are all for Republicans screwing over America's veterans.
Got it.

He can learn to code. Besides, if he's a retired E-8, he's getting about $3,000 months in retirement.

Try to live and support a family on $36,000 a year.

Good luck.

(Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking military retirement. It's been very good for us and has allowed us to properly plan and prepare for full retirement this year.)

we have done it before

After the fall of the Soviet Union the federal government under Bill Clinton downsized the uniformed military

Soldiers were thrown out of the military without the generous severance pay that the federal workers are being offered

So the answer is yes.
You're saying yes?

Oh, there's little question that they're looking to dramatically lower the cost of Gubmint; a worthwhile goal, isn't it?

It depends. Do we need scientists working on the bird flu? Do we need scientists watching over our nuclear stockpile for safety issues. Do we need government watchdogs to investigate fraud and abuse within the government? Why does the DOD not need cuts, why does our defense budget at nearly 900 billion not need cuts? Does none of this count as lowering the cost of Gubmint?
