US to withdraw from NATO?

Iran attacked Turkey who is a NATO member. So why isn't NATO attacking Iran?
Article 5 does not require them to counterattack.
“The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Point being, Iran attacked two NATO countries, the US is battling Iran over its nuclear program, and all the other NATO countries are saying "not my problem", So Article 5 is worthless?
Those countries have not invoked Article 5, as the US did for Afghanistan, when the only use of Article 5 was responded to. Iran has not attacked the US. North Atlantic security has not been assaulted.

Except that EU countries started spending more money on NATO during Trumps first term.
That’s true.

Trump used that demand to appeal to isolationists and parochial people in his base back in 2015.

It was just a gimmick.

But Trump has always been bent on destroying the Western Alliance, and betraying the legacy of Roosevelt and Churchill.

He has nearly succeeded. He has humiliated himself and his country consistantly. He has insulted, demeaned and tried to intimidate long term allies from the very start.

He has disgraced the United States before the entire world.

You can turn your TV on right now and watch Britain, not the United States assemble 40 countries on very short notice to discuss how to diffuse the Iran War.

Nothing like that has happened for almost 100 years.

That’s how far we’ve fallen on the world stage.

All self inflicted.

I am talking about present day, but since you bring up WWII, France was toast without the US.

Present day example of idealism is the amount of money as a percent of GDP that these countries were contributing to their OWN defense prior to Trump putting the hammer down. They are idealistic and naive enough to believe that climate change is more of a threat to them than Russia. Trump had to warn Merckel not to be so dependent on Russian oil. She didn't listen and he imposed sanctions that slowed down the construction of Nordstream 2 to save Germany from being dependant on Russian oil. Dumb Biden removed the sanctions and what do you know, Russia attacks Ukraine as they no longer had to worry about their oil flowing through Ukraine to Russia. The pipeline was never used, but Germany quickly realized that going "green" so quickly and being fully reliant on Russian oil was a bad combination. In short, they had to learn the hard way.

Soooooo……..

The solution to being blackmailed over oil and gas is to increase your dependence on it?

Gee, I never thought of that !

Frankly, it is the Europe who has lost it due to leftists policies. We would be wise not to follow.

We have oil and gas. I guess you forgot.

We’ve been at war with Iran for nearly 50 years.

They’ve killed over 1000 Americans since 1979.
So you are saying Ronnie Reagan was a traitor, trading guns for hostages?

Iran attacked Turkey who is a NATO member. So why isn't NATO attacking Iran?
As of late March 2026, Turkey's Ministry of Defense and NATO reported multiple instances of NATO-deployed air defenses intercepting ballistic missiles launched from Iran that breached Turkish airspace.

These incidents, occurring during a broader escalation involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel, have not triggered Article 5, as NATO leaders emphasized defense vigilance over immediate retaliation.
