Universal Healthcare question for everyone

Couple that with the reduction in healthcare expenses and most people will come out ahead.
Not necessarily. How much do you come out ahead if you die while waiting for medical help? I really think that that alone is worth more then paying a higher healthcare bill.

We add extra costs to medicine because we require medication to be fully tested.https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2018/cost-of-clinical-trials-for-new-drug-FDA-approval-are-fraction-of-total-tab
I do not know about you but I like the idea of new procedures and better practices being used. While old ideas may work sometimes they cause problems that were not foreseen ten years ago. But hey you want to have a new hip then have it replace four or five years later because the parts were not up to modern standards that is up to you.

I don’t know what doctors pay is under universal healthcare, but I don’t see doctors flocking to the US from Canada and UK for more money.

I look at my doctors offices and see how many employees are involved in billing, insurance claims, negotiations with insurance companies, collections

You don’t have that with universal healthcare
Many of my transplant doctors went to school in Great Britain.

Libs want UH. Bernie Sanders is a champion of it but there are many who agree with the Socialist.

The argument is that it works in Europe.

Now in Europe education is free. It’s not in the US. A MD will not begin to make real money til they have gone through 4 yrs of undergrad, 3 yrs of med school and a 4 yr residency. That’s expensive and usually the lie between $400-600k in debt. Funny, I have a client who is an MD from India. In India he said you go straight to med school. No undergrad requirement. Makes sense. But I digress. Let’s say the person goes through the undergrad, med school and residency and soon becomes a renowned surgeon like Dr. James Andrews was.

Let’s say he gets paid $4mil per year. Now comes UH. How much does that doctor make now? How does UH reward our best doctors?

If I am a plumber I may charge what I want. Why can’t I do that as a doctor?
Higher education in the UK is not free.

Yep. Arizona VA scandal anyone? If they treat veterans like this how will they treat the average Joe?

I personally know veterans who say that for the simply stuff they go to the VA, but the more complicated stuff they pay out of pocket.

This is what "free" gets you, watered down and subpar.

Naturally, I see no one going to places like Cuba or Venezuela or North Korea for "free" health care

And you never will.

But you do see a lot of people all over the world come to the US for health care.

People like Mick Jagger could go anywhere in the world for health care but choose to come to the US instead

Just know that I find it very odd that the government care little about spending taxpayer dollars UNTIL it comes to YOUR health care to keep YOU alive

Then all of a sudden we have to cut costs.

Notice, they knew a long time ago how they would gut YOUR health care

Meanwhile, those in Congress opted out of Obamacare and will continue to have the best in the world, which is why they all live to 120 years old and refuse to retire from Congress.

Congressmen get the same healthcare as other federal government employees. The belief they have superior healthcare is a myth. The government supplies basic coverage, and you pay out of your paycheck for the "Cadillac" plans.

I was at Gettysburg one time and ran into a guy from UK.
We started talking and I asked about Universal Healthcare. He told me how he had open heart surgery the year before and that it was quickly approved. He showed up at the hospital, showed his ID card, had the procedure and never got a bill.

I told him how my wife had a minor heart procedure and we received a stack of bills 3/4 inch thick, had to go back and forth between the doctors and insurance for months and we ended up paying $12,000 out of pocket.

Yes, I would like universal healthcare
So you had crappy insurance! Do better.

My insurance company paid out over $3 million in 2023. I paid my out-of-pocket maximum of $3000.

Contrary to assurances and in violation of federal law, the Obama administration shielded lawmakers from an effective pay cut of up to $12,000 each by granting Congress several types of special treatment unavailable to the public. It deemed Congress eligible to participate in D.C.‘s small-business exchange, though both federal and D.C. law prohibit it. That form of special treatment gave rise to another: It made Congress the only large employer in the country that can make tax-free contributions toward its employees’ exchange-plan premiums. The act of issuing those payments conflicts with other federal laws, and bestows yet another form of special treatment on Congress: Members of Congress and their staff are the only group of federal workers who receive FEHBP premium contributions for non-FEHBP coverage.

Obama took these steps because he knew Congress would have quickly revamped or even repealed Obamacare if lawmakers had to live under its terms.
