This is long long overdue.
The UK’s Daily Mail reported last week that the British government is introducing a new criminal offence for teachers, social workers and counselors who turn a blind eye to child sex abuse. Although that is too little, too late for the untold numbers of needless victims of sex “grooming” and trafficking rings, it’s a step in the right direction for the future. Unfortunately, the heart of the problem is not so much criminal as cultural.
The government apparently decided to act following an official report on the notorious case of more than 1400 child victims of sexual abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Children as young as 11 were raped, tortured, abducted and trafficked to other cities in England predominantly by gangs of British-Pakistani Muslims.
