Am I the only person tired of hearing the same old personal insults and partisan attacks? The OP-linked CBC article itself seemed quite objective and informative. Among other things it reported:
“On Thursday there were 916 reported fatalities in the United States, a day after the country recorded over 1,200 new deaths for the first time since August.
“Eighteen states have reported their highest daily numbers of hospitalized COVID-19 patients since the pandemic started and on Friday the number of COVID-19 patients in U.S. hospitals climbed to a two-month high.
“There are now more than 41,000 hospitalized patients with coronavirus across the country, up 34 per cent from Oct. 1, according to a Reuters analysis.“
We are entering the cold weather and everyone should take care, use masks when indoors as appropriate, maintain social distancing, avoid crowds, etc. This can slow the spread and save lives.
The use of masks when indoors as appropriate, maintaining social distancing, avoiding crowds, and other necessary precautions are perceived by Trump supporters as causing a recession likely to render Trump a one-term president, hence the personal insults and partisan attacks.
Consequently the OP-linked CBC article is perceived by Trump supporters and others on the right as partisan and subjective – that “the number of COVID-19 patients in U.S. hospitals climbed to a two-month high” is further evidence of Trump’s failure to address the pandemic, exposing as a lie Trump’s ridiculous claim that we are ‘turning the corner’ on the pandemic.
And no, you’re not the only person tired of hearing the same old personal insults and partisan attacks – but when confronted with facts and the truth conservatives don’t like, personal insults and partisan attacks are all they have to resort to.
86% of those who contracted COVID 19 in the month of July wore masks all the time or most of the time.... The FACTS do not support your hyperbole.
The cloth and simple cotton masks most Americans wear (
when they wear them) primarily limit active transmission. But you know that already. N95 masks are used to prevent inhalation of contaminated air as well, which is why they are so widely used in Asia and among medical personel everywhere. Covid-19 transmission
can be stopped and has been stopped in China (and Taiwan and South Korea) through mask wearing, distancing and strict tracking and contacting, quarantining, etc — without months of “total lockdowns.”
The U.S. (and European) failure to control the virus and the associated drawn out economic pain does
NOT so much flow from Trump’s inconsistent and divisive actions as it does from the very nature of the West’s weak and uncentralized political power, lack of social cohesion & willingness to sacrifice.
Nobody expects or wants Americans to act like Chinese, and the Covid-19 virus certainly should not be exaggerated — it will be defeated one way or another. Americans need not go crazy over this virus, blaming each other, the “enemy party” or the Chinese. But we should have done better, should acknowledge facts of the pandemics continuation, and can certainly criticize Trump for his poor leadership and Democrats for claiming they would have managed the pandemic dramatically better.
