Twitter, Facebook: $51 Billion Combined Market Value Erased Since Trump Ban

and they haven't flinched at the decision.
Actually Twitter CEO did.
Said right there for all to see/read.... admitting it "sets a dangerous precedent"... as well as admitting the two social giants have too much power.
Also stating they need to take a harder look at policies, and how they have failed.

Anyone wanting to go back to My Space? Are they even around? There is a site called MeWe, not sure if that is a good place or not, but they claim they don't allow spyware or ads, a friend told me about it, wanted me to join but I am just not into any of that.
Trump should buy it and bring it back.

The same guy under investigation by the FBI?...for state security fraud..Oh my. His word is worth nothing just like his lawsuit for Trump.

Just a couple of years plus about a month.

Then the tech giants become regulated public utilities and find themselves morphing into the "Bell System" residue.

It'll pass both houses handily; be quickly vetoed by Chairperson Xarris and then over ridden.

Still, it won't cause the guillotine fever - that'll come when the override is ignored.

I'm not so sure government forcing companies to support another company fits in with small government conservatism. The Texas AG is really wanting to develop a losing streak of lawsuits based on political ambition. Is he running for president? I bet he is.

Who is asking for that? Nobody.
This is about the First Amendment and monopolies.

Social media giants Facebook and Twitter have collectively seen $51.2 billion in combined market value wiped out over the last two trading sessions since they banned President Donald Trump from their platforms following the U.S. Capitol breach.

Large tech firms and a number of Democratic political figures have claimed Trump incited violence at the U.S. Capitol last week. The incident disrupted debates in both the House and Senate as lawmakers were forced to shelter in place while police and security attempted to seize back control.

Facebook market value is still up over 65% since last March. And Twitter market value is up 104% during the same period. I think they'll survive just fine.

This has nothing to do with the first amendment except forcing a company like Amazon to support another company's political messages probably goes against the first amendment.

Also, while I do think Amazon may be a monopoly, they aren't in web hosting, there are a multitude of other companies and maybe even a fraction of those would be more than happy to take on Parler.

Not if an alternative, comservative-friendly platform arises.
Half of the western world will migrate.

All the allegations levelled against Parler could also be levelled against Twitter. Parler's contract stated they were to be given 30 days notice. They were given 33 hours notice. Why?? To stop Trumo moving there.
Pornhub was not punished in the least by Google or Amazon, despite airing child porn and rape videos.
It's purely political discrimination and Stalinism.

Well, that's quite a defense: "I'm no worse than Pornhub."

BTW, you may have noticed that Pornhub and others have recognized the problem and have taken measures to eliminate the practice.

But I find it interesting that you're an expert on Twitter's contracts. Why don't you show us all the terms and conditions (as well as any exceptions that may exist)

And you're right, the allegations could be levelled against Twitter. Because as we've all seen, anyone can make an allegation whether it's true or not.

For starters you keep conflating twitter with Parler's agreements with other companies. Why?

Also, Amazon was flagging Parler posts back in November.

In court filings late Tuesday, Amazon said it flagged dozens of pieces of violent content to the social media app starting in November. The company argued that Parler violated its contract with Amazon’s cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services, when it failed to remove the content and that AWS suspended Parler’s account “as a last resort.”

There were even threats made against Amazon staff.

It's not political discrimination and it's not Stalinism either. It's the free market at work and you just don't like it when it takes away your safe space to threaten people with violence.

PornHub has policies in place not to post illegal porn. That doesn't mean people won't try and PornHub will remove the offensive material and ban those users.

and they haven't flinched at the decision.
Actually Twitter CEO did.

Also stating they need to take a harder look at policies, and how they have failed.

Exactly why Social Media is in desperate need to be regulated, specifically, they cannot ban anyone unless they SPECIFICALLY call to violence.
You can read Trumps speech and Tweets that got him banned.
He didn't call for violence. In fact, he said the opposite. He told followers " peacefully assemble and protest in Washington".... pretty huge stretch to say that is calling for violence.
At the same time, other tweets made by leftist elected officials - SPECIFICALLY - encouraging violence, outright telling people to do so - are not only not banned, but the tweets are still there.
If you defend an institution that does this, then you are not for fairness and democratic principles... rather support fascism and unequal treatment.
That decision is for the courts to decide if Trump wants to sue.
Trump is not my worry. I wish he would have banned himself on Twitter 3 years ago.
My worry is we are seeing mass censoring on a scale never seen before in this country, much akin to China.
We have had canaries in the mine now for several years, most comedians will no longer go to college campuses anymore, speakers getting shut out... shouted down. This is fundamental change that is occurring, and it is not a change anyone should like.
When it suits you, or doesn't.

There are literally millions of posts by conservatives on twitter, facebook and other social media outlets as we speak.

Which has nothing to do with the censoring that has happened.
I don't believe anyone is saying no conservatives are being heard anywhere.
