It took me 10 seconds to find out that the video edited out the context.
And that context is we have nothing to gain by defending Ukraine. Nothing. It is already mostly controlled by Russian puppet military groups. Having Ukraine join NATO would mean we would be contracted to go to war against Russia to defend them if Russia sent in troops.

US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban met at the White House in Washington on Monday with plans to discuss trade and energy issues, as well as weapons sales.

Like Trump, right-wing Orban has taken a hard line against migration. Orban has said he hopes he and Trump can coordinate that stance into a global alliance.

Orban said he had not been in the US for 20 years. Former US President Barack Obama did not welcome Orban, and similarly his predecessor George W. Bush did not welcome a Hungarian prime minister.

It may be correct to say the US has no real interest in Ukraine. But imo the more important question is what is Putin's interest in Ukraine.

1. Putin wants a "defensive barrier" between Nato and Russia because he fears another invasion like Hitler's and Napoleon's. This makes no sense because Nato's members would all have to agree to invade and start a war. THAT's not gonna happen. And Russia has nukes, while Germany does not. And Germany and France would freeze without Russian gas. Russia would never sit back and let other countries take their gas.

2. Putin wants to protect the ethnic Russians whom Ukraine was forced to take in as citizens during the USSR era, when the USSR those families there explicitly to tie conquered countries like Ukraine to them. Russia used the same pretext in the Baltic states. That also makes no sense. The US and Nato said no to Russia keeping territory. Those countries have democratic representative govts and functioning economies that serve citizens better than Putin serves his citizens. Supposedly, ethnic russians were given some non-discrimination status, but I doubt it works 100%, but .... they can move to Russia if they thought that was in their best interests. And PUtin has already "captured" the Ukranian territory where the ethnic Russians live.

3. The real reason PUtin wants Ukraine is that he wants to use it, and Belarus, and Georgia, and any other former USSR servant state he can acquire to set up a trade association that is not open to Western goods. That would highly benefit Russian citizens. But outside of Belarus, a majority of people living in the former USSR servant states don't want anything to do with that. And who in their right mind would prefer a Lada or a Sil to a volkswagen.

And it is in our interest to not allow Putin to get away with rebuilding the former Russian empire that predated the communists.
