Everyone remember what a total screw-up Dubya was, especially when it concerned natural disasters. His dismal response to Hurricane Katrina jumps to mind.

With the landfall of Hurricane Harvey, the Big Orange Idiot and his staff see the coming disaster as a perfect opportunity to raise Big Orange’s approval rating. His advisers understand proving the Big Orange Idiot can react rationally to a major event will do much to change his image of that of a spoiled toddler.

Another opportunity is at hand for the current administration AND the congressional Republicans. When funds are appropriated to make the inevitable infrastructure repairs, to offer low-interest loans to those families whose homes are damaged, and pay for other expenses, it will be a simple matter to funnel several billion dollars into the pockets of Big Orange’s cronies and large GOP political contributors in the region wrecked by Harvey.

The effects of this hurricane, and others expected this season, are a win-win for the Republican Party. The congressional Republicans can exploit the natural catastrophes to further their agenda to line the billionaires’ pockets, and the Big Orange Idiot’s approval rating can benefit from the death, injuries, and property destruction. Yes, a win-win situation for the GOP all around, so conservatives can also rejoice.

All of this is far beyond conservatives' ability to understand. They are mired in their convoluted logic, where down is up, and corruption is good.

You CLEARLY don't understand the feds role & power when it comes to local disasters.

Nagin was the proper fall guy for the terrible shit that happened in New Orleans. As well as the governor

So we're back to Republicans have to somehow prevent storm damage but when obie was in there it was no big deal he made his showing and all was good.

Are democrats really this ignorant of the principles of federalism?

Bush's great crime? Obeying the law and not interfering until the state legally requests help

Bush's problem was he had to deal with Louisiana democrat theives and pikers before he could actually help anyone. Now Trump gets to deal with the likes of Maxine brain dead soft skull Waters. That should be fun.

Its a godsend for him isnt it ?
Surely he wont screw up this opportunity ?

So how much campaign money and donations to their livelihoods are all of those Houston democrats going to demand before they let Trump help out the people?

Their going to block anything he tries to do and then claim racism after the suffering. That's a given.

Bertram, like most leftards, have no idea what "jurisdiction" is or what it's meaning is or how it applies to states.

Flooding people out of homes and lives is a god send to you people? You really are the most fucked up people on the planet. You don't give a fuck about the people you only care about the politics. You disgusting piece of shit.

I never understood the pressure placed upon Presidents in these situations. I don't expect any President to be a disaster management specialist. They should be calling state officials, FEMA etc., and telling them to figure something out. I don't want a reality TV star or community organizer in charge of handling disaster relief.

Shall we revisit,"Heck of a job, Brownie..."???

An efficient and effective response to Hurricane Harvey by the Big Orange Idiot and his administration could be impossible. Most of the people he appointed to head critical departments were to reward them for loyalty or political favors, NOT for their abilities and skills.

So, the victims of Hurricane Harvey could very well suffer the same experiences as those families who survived Hurricane Katrina.

The incompetence level of Big Orange’s administration and his appointees to important federal bureaus far surpass those of Dubya’s team of clowns.

Remember, “After viewers watched harrowing scenes of Americans abandoned by their government in their flooded city, Bush praised his hapless director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Mike Brown, for doing ‘a heck of a job.’ That comment triggered a torrent of ridicule.”

Of course, conservatives’ faulty memories do “remember” Brownie doing a heck of a job. But their faulty memories also “remember” when Dubya declared “Mission Accomplished” standing before a banner displayed on a U.S. warship. (Big Orange just announced his plans to send 4000 more troops to that “accomplished mission”.)

Given the incompetence of Big Orange’s gang, their chances to capitalize on the devastation they expect from Harvey are slim to none. The deaths, injuries, and property damage they now look upon as a blessing, will likely slip through their fingers.

And another of Don’s Swamp Rats Bails …

... just before publication of this New Yorker article. Must be "fake"-n-shyte.

Icahn’s role was novel. He would be an adviser with a formal title, but he would not receive a salary, and he would not be required to divest himself of any of his holdings, or to make any disclosures about potential conflicts of interest. “Carl Icahn will be advising the President in his individual capacity,” Trump’s transition team asserted.

In the months after the election, the stock price of CVR, Icahn’s refiner, nearly doubled—a surge that is difficult to explain without acknowledging the appointment of the company’s lead shareholder to a White House position. The rally meant a personal benefit for Icahn, at least on paper, of half a billion dollars. There was an expectation in the market—an expectation created, in part, by Icahn’s own remarks—that, with Trump in the White House and Icahn playing consigliere, the rules were about to change, and not just at the E.P.A. Icahn’s empire ranges across many economic sectors, from energy to pharmaceuticals to auto supplies to mining, and all of them are governed by the types of regulations about which he would now potentially be advising Trump.

Janet McCabe, who left the E.P.A. in January, and now works at the Environmental Law and Policy Center, told me, “I’m not naïve. People in business try to influence the government. But the job of the government is to serve the American people, not the specific business interests of the President’s friends. To think that you have somebody with that kind of agenda bending the President’s ear is troubling.”

Conflicts of interest have been a defining trait of the Trump Administration. The President has not only refused to release his tax returns; he has declined to divest from his companies, instead putting them in a trust managed by his children. Questions have emerged about the ongoing business ties of his daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who, since Trump took office, have reaped nearly two hundred million dollars from the Trump hotel in Washington, D.C., and from other investments. Although Trump promised to “drain the swamp,” he has assembled a Cabinet of ultra-rich Americans, including two billionaires: Betsy DeVos, the Secretary of Education, and Wilbur Ross, the Secretary of Commerce.

But Icahn is worth more than the Trump family and all the members of the Cabinet combined—and, with no constraint on his license to counsel the President on regulations that might help his businesses, he was poised to become much richer. Robert Weissman, who runs the watchdog group Public Citizen, told me, “This kind of self-enrichment and influence over decision-making by an individual mogul who is simultaneously inside and outside the Administration is unprecedented. In terms of corruption, there’s nothing like it. Maybe ever.” In conversations with me, financiers who have worked with Icahn described his appointment as a kind of corporate raid on Washington. One said, “It’s the cheapest takeover Carl’s ever done.”
