On a smaller time scale, my rent went up $104/mo recently. Social Security COLA gave $31/mo to compensate. $73/mo LOSS.

For quite some time I have noticed this tendency among Republicans to present themselves as being the "manlier" party and to associate those who particularly lean to what Americans consider to be "the Left" as weak and woke and and therefore not manly.

The same has been happening within evangelical Christianity in the USA, many of whom of course vote Republican. A very informative and also amusing text by Kristin Kobes Du Mez published in 2020 looks at the way the Christian Right/Nationalists have striven to replace the Jesus figures of the gospels with an all encompassing figure of rugged masculinity.
