"High-profile supporters of Donald Trump descended on Brazil to throw their weight behind president Jair Bolsonaro, as the populist gears up for a re-election campaign next year viewed as a key battle for the global anti-establishment right. A conservative political event in Brasília over the weekend drew in hundreds of the far-right leader’s fans, including a handful of international allies from the US and other Latin American countries, with a bill featuring government ministers, a popular YouTuber and a comedy troupe. One of the star speakers was the former US president’s eldest son Don Jr, who gave a live video address because of cancelled flights due to hurricane disruption in New York. He said Brazil had “a big decision to make next year”.

Jair Bolsonaro is following the Trump playbook in attacking and undermining Brazil's struggling democracy. Just like Trump, before a single vote is counted, he is attacking the election as fraudulent.

"Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro slammed the country's Supreme Court and cast doubt on the integrity of next year's elections on Tuesday as his supporters rallied in major cities at a time of heightened tensions in Latin America's largest democracy.

Facing slipping poll numbers, surging inflation, and criticism for his handling of the world's second-deadliest coronavirus outbreak, Bolsonaro has urged supporters for weeks to protest his perceived enemies in Congress and the courts.

More than 100,000 supporters turned out in Sao Paulo, according to state security officials – far short of the record turnout Bolsonaro forecast, but perhaps enough to embolden the president in his standoff with the judiciary and Congress."

Steven Bannon was in Brazil screaming that "the election will be stolen by machines." Yes, that is true.

The question is why do Trumpist "Conservatives" have such a disdain for democratic institutions? Why are Jason Miller and Don, Jr. in Brazil? I mean are these folks advocating an uprising in Brazil similar to what occurred on 1/6? What is in it in for them to ostensibly undermine Brazilian democratic institutions?

We know Trumpers have absolutely no love or respect for the election process in this country. That goes without saying.

The question is why this disdain for electoral politics and why are Trumpist "conservatives" spreading this disdain internationally?

Of course, I will just add, that Trumpist "conservative" attitudes towards elections are no different from those of Latin American Caudillos and strongmen.

In other words, Trumpism is more Latin American then it is Anglo-American.

They love their aggressive, pugilistic, arrogant, nationalist strongmen.

They just want to be led.

So if your guy in Brazil does not win its because Trump undermined democracy

But if your guy does win its because democracy still works?

Understood.

Idiot.

Understood.

Idiot.

The guy in Brazil is already claiming the election is rigged.

I get that people like to label "far left" and "far right" so loosely. I don't know much about this guy, but how is populism considered "far right"?

If he is a fascist, than I can understand the label. I saw Trump support MORE free speech and individual liberty, not less (unlike the owners of social media the "woke" or most of MSM for instance)

If populism of working in your citizens interests is far right, than what is simply "right"? Democrat policies?
