trump comes to Bolsonaro's defense

This is insane

Any other President doing this would be long gone
It would certainly be a page one story for days. But Capt. Chaos keeps so many balls of shit afloat at any one time the Bolsonaro blackmail gets pushed off in lieu of other more pertinent scandals.

In a nutshell Dotard is using a dubiously asserted authority being challenged in the courts to put onerous tariffs on a country with which we have a surplus in order to get his partner in crime off the hook.

And no one in trumpworld minds one little bit.

*Note to the mod who locked my prior thread on the subject. If you think referring to trump or Bolsonaro as insurrectionists isn't factual based on all the evidence available to the public you aren't living in the real world.

Trump signs order increasing Brazil tariff to 50 percent

Trump earlier this month announced plans to impose a 50 percent tariff on Brazil, specifically citing the prosecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro over an alleged plot to remain in power after losing an election.

Brazil is the rare country that has faced steep tariffs despite the United States having a trade surplus with it, underscoring the degree to which Trump’s tariffs on Brazil are motivated by other political matters.

Bolsonaro is something like 70- Years Old. Let him rot in prison.
It's for Brazil to decide. But there's no doubt they succeeded where we failed.

On Thursday, the Brazilian Supreme Court did what the U.S. Senate and federal courts tragically failed to do: bring a former president who assaulted democracy to justice.

In a historic ruling, the Supreme Court voted 4 to 1 to convict ex-President Jair Bolsonaro of conspiring against democracy and attempting a coup in the wake of his 2022 election defeat. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison. Barring a successful appeal, which is unlikely, Mr. Bolsonaro will become the first coup leader in Brazilian history to serve time in prison.

These developments draw a sharp contrast with the United States, where President Trump, who also attempted to overturn an election, was sent not to prison but back to the White House. Mr. Trump, perhaps recognizing the power of that contrast, called Mr. Bolsonaro’s prosecution a “witch hunt” and described his conviction as “a terrible thing. Very terrible.”

Wrong again
So WTF is this?

In parallel, Bolsonaro's allies have rallied behind an amnesty bill in Congress, building on the campaign to free hundreds of his supporters who stormed and vandalized government buildings in January 2023.
"A shortcut to achieving some form of justice ... and bringing peace to Brazil would be through amnesty," Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, the son of the former president, told Reuters on the day his father was convicted last week. "Amnesty would wipe the slate clean."
Still, the legality of such a move remains contentious. During Supreme Court deliberations last week, two justices argued that any attempt to pardon those convicted of plotting a coup would be unconstitutional.

Bolsonaro loyalists are trying to achieve what the Criminal-in-Chief did with the stroke of a pen.

Brazil’s ex-president Bolsonaro arrested to prevent ‘attempted escape,’ court says

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was arrested on Saturday over concerns he was plotting to escape house arrest after he took a soldering iron to his ankle bracelet, authorities said.

The arrest at his home in Brasília, just days before he was due to begin a prison sentence for leading a coup attempt, is another setback for Bolsonaro, whose prosecution has been heavily criticized by the Trump administration.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said Saturday on X the US was “gravely concerned” about Bolsonaro’s arrest, which he called “provocative and unnecessary” in a post on X.

Landau criticized Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the Brazilian Supreme Court judge overseeing the case, accusing him of “flouting traditional norms of judicial restraint” and bringing the court into disrepute. “There is nothing more dangerous to democracy than a judge who knows no limits on his power.”

Was he planning on going to Mar-a-Lago?
