Trump: There will be riots if Iām denied nomination
Donald Trump warned Wednesday that āriotsā would break out if the GOP tries to deny him the Republican Partyās nomination.
āI think weāll win before getting to the convention. And if weāre 20 votes short or if weāre 100 short and weāre at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400 ⦠I donāt think you can say that we donāt get it automatically,ā he told CNN.
āI think youād have riots,ā he added. āIām representing ⦠many, many millions of people, in many cases first-time voters.
āI wouldnāt lead it, but I think bad things would happen,ā the tycoon noted.
āThe really big story is how many people are voting in these primaries,ā he said. āIf you just disenfranchise these people, I think you would have problems like youāve never seen before.ā
Trump mentioned a hypothetical scenario in which heād go to the Cleveland convention in July with about 1,000 delegates and a rival would show up with 500.
He said he believes heāll capture the nomination before the convention and said he couldnāt imagine failing to get the partyās nod virtually āautomaticallyā in such a scenario.
Trump, fresh off wins in Florida, North Carolina and Illinois, said: āI donāt even want to think aboutā what heād do if heās in such an advantageous position but still does not become the nominee.
Trump, who lost in Ohio to Gov. John Kasich, also predicted a healing process in the GOP after the āwar.ā
āAfter we win, I think a lot of feelings will be soothed,ā he said. āOnce the battle is over, once the war is over, I think there really is a natural healing process. Iāve gotten along very well with people.ā
With about 60 percent of the partyās total delegates already awarded, Trump has won about 47 percent. But if he continues to win at that same clip, heād fall more than 100 delegates short of the 1,237 needed.
