Trump wants to eliminate income tax, but replace it with tariffs on imported goods.

One single tax collected by the Federal Government and distributed to the states is the only fair tax.

No fees, no nothing, spend one dollar get taxed on one dollar. No property tax, no bottle deposits, no tolls. No cost to do any sort of business with the government.

This video estimates that tariffs would have to be at 133%. This would mean that other countries would also put up tariffs on US goods.

So, A) foreign goods for the US would be too expensive for people to buy

B) US goods would be too expensive to sell abroad.

C) This would hit the working classes the hardest. Any tax which taxes what people buy, like sales taxes, is worse for poor people than income taxes, as the poor pay a high proportion of their wages on goods, while the rich don't.

Nothing says "I Don't Care About You, I Just Want Your Vote" than this policy.

It is possible for the US government to eliminate income tax and replace it with tariffs on imported goods. This would shift the burden of taxation from individuals to foreign producers and consumers.

The impact of such a policy change would depend on several factors, including the level of tariffs imposed and the extent of trade relationships with other countries.

On one hand, it could protect domestic industries by making imported goods more expensive, potentially leading to job creation and economic growth in certain sectors. It could also reduce the tax burden on individuals and incentivize domestic production.

On the other hand, it could lead to higher prices for consumers on imported goods, potentially leading to inflation. It could also result in trade disputes with other countries if they perceive the tariffs as unfair or if they retaliate with their own tariffs.

Additionally, reliance on tariffs for revenue could make the government vulnerable to fluctuations in international trade and economic conditions.

In summary, while replacing income tax with tariffs is possible, the impact would be complex and could have both positive and negative consequences depending on how it is implemented. :)

A tax on tequila imported from Mexico would be a great idea. I'm sure there are other products from Mexico we could tax. Having Mexicans pay for our infrastructure would be great.

Then the coyotes could make twice as much money, by smuggling cheap labor AND tequila at the same time. Go team!

Of course not. Its fantastically stupid. No matter how you cut it, it would result in a collapse in our tax revenue. With massive economic damage that would last years, if not a decade.

The last time we tried this, it required a world war and 75 million world wide dead to pull us out of it.

Congress wouldn't pass it. But why would we elect Trump based on policy positions that are 1) dumb as fuck 2) unable to implemented?

I am not sure about this specific proposal, but the left still thinks that cutting taxes decreases tax revenue in the long term, so I don't put much weight into their economic opinions.

It would be negative. There's no positive way of making it work.

For a “businessman”, Trump sure doesn’t understand economics! :auiqs.jpg:

Yeah, they do. But they don't use as large a percentage of their wages as poor people do.

A lot of poor are getting on for spending 100% of their wages.

Rich people will save or invest.

That's because they make more money. They still buy the same stuff everyone else does. Only more so. So they're actually sending the government more money than the poor.

Imagine, blaming the rich for being rich. That's like dead people blaming those of us for being alive.

Yes, they're giving the government more money.

That's not the point.

And we're not blaming anyone for anything.

We're stating that a VAT sales tax hurts the poor more than an income tax.

Rich people, who basically control government and the media, are pumping a lot of money into telling everyone how much better a sales tax is.

Trump wants a tax on tariffs because he thinks it'll save him money

Problem is, when the poor don't buy, the rich don't make money

No it doesn't. It's the same exact outcome. The working poor have more money to spend. But that extra money will go to taxes, just like it did when their income was taxed.

It's a wash. Not everything they buy is going to cost more because of tariffs. Not even all imports are going to be taxed higher. Only things on the list.
Rich people, who basically control government and the media, are pumping a lot of money into telling everyone how much better a sales tax is.

BS. Most rich people have zero to do with government. Only the lobbyist and special interest. The practically own 95% of congress. They're rich, obviously. But just saying "rich people" is misleading. That's a very broad brush you're using.
Trump wants a tax on tariffs because he thinks it'll save him money

Trump doesn't actually want to eliminate the income tax and raise tariffs. He's lying again, because his supporters are too stupid to realize that
1. He's lying
2. The president doesn't have the authority.
3. What ever an increase in tariffs are, would still be revenue neutral to the government. Just like his BS tax cuts were. What ever the short fall was on taxes, only increased the borrowing from the fed. Which increased the inflation tax that everyone is still paying for.

Trumps a F'ing liar and is just throwing BS against the wall, because he knows it'll draw attention.
Problem is, when the poor don't buy, the rich don't make money

Exactly. And middle class small business owners don't make as much. Another reason why this end the income tax for higher tariffs is a stupid idea.
But remember, it's just another Trump campaign lie. Like his "10 new cities" idea. Or make Mexico pay for the wall. or all the others.

Do you write any comments that are about the topic being discussed?
My bad. Having trump on the title threw me that the topic being discussed was Trump. What should we be talking about?

It's my point.

If a poor person gets $20,000 a year, and they pay $10,000 in tax, and another poor person gets $20,000 a year and they pay $5,000 in tax, who do you think will have more money to spend on things?

If you get rid of income tax, and expect tariffs to bring in that extra, it's not going to work.
The article says you'd need to increase ALL TARIFFS to 133%.

No, if you don't increase tariffs on this item, then you need to increase tariffs on something else. Meaning you're pumping tariffs for other things to 250%, 500% what ever.

Either way it'll make it prohibitive, so it want get imported, and you won't make any money from it.

Doesn't matter whether "most rich people have nothing to do with the government". I didn't say all rich people did this.

The Koch brothers, for example, have changed the Republican Party with their money.
Walmart helped get in a practice where WALMART can get its workers to have government money because Walmart doesn't pay them enough.
Many rich companies go around the US asking for tax cuts. "We'll come to your state if you give us the best deal, what will you offer us?" And this can often mean paying so little in tax they become uber-competitive and force others out of business because they're literally BRIBING the governments.

So Trump is lying. Well great. So we need to tell his supporters A) his idea is fucking stupid and B) he'd never do it, just like "lock her up".

And what will his supporters do? Nothing. They'll still vote for him.

My bad. Having trump on the title threw me that the topic being discussed was Trump. What should we be talking about?

Wow. You see "Trump" in the title and you think the topic is anything to do with Trump?

Yeah, I saw Trump in the title, let's talk about his gonads.

Maybe now you can fuck off and go find another thread with "Trump" in the title and write some pointless crap about Trump there too. Wow, who needs education when you've got your "logic"?

Bye bye

I read your stupid OP. I watched your stupid youtube. According to Chris (Pencil Neck) Hayes he heard that some guy said that Trump said he's gonna replace the federal income tax with a buku tariff. That defies all economic logic. But you heard Chris Hayes say it and now that is gospel.

You're a fu(kin retard.

Soon some intrepid so-called journalist is gonna ask Trump if he said that, Trump is gonna say "I never said that" and you shall take that as proof that Trump said that.

I bet anything you don't have children.

This is the kinda OP that passes for a thread in this forum?

Welcome to the ignore list.

Why the fu(k do you think that bothers me in the slightest? Matter of fact, go PM a bunch of your woke azzhole, snowflake pals that can't stand debate and lead the charge in ignoring me. I'll wear it like a badge of honor. Why do you think you are so special that I'll cringe at the thought of you never reading me again? One less azzhole that doesn't have to scroll by my words.

Puzzy.
