Worth pointing out (though I know YOU know) is that if the USA were fighting this as a real war, we already would have hammered the entire country to shit, destroyed the infrastructure and have beaten the IRGC and mullahs.

But instead, we have purposefully hamstrung ourselves by skipping over key targets which would make our job much easier making the war go more slowly and cost us much more instead just to try to avoid impacting the civilian populace anymore than necessary.

Unfortunately, the IRGC may make it necessary to take out their power, water, gas and everything else as well, leaving the whole country a total mess for a long time, but this is not an argument for our having not gone there in the first place, just pointing out that whatever happens next, all of this is the fault and doing of the Iranian regime.

Don't say "energy infrastructure" like CNN. That combines two separate infrastructures, oil and electricity.

Oil infrastructure is Iran's long term revenue source, needed to rebuild their economy.

Electrical infrastructure, i.e. their powerplants, is needed for power and for their desalinization plants for drinking water.

Trump's deadline for tomorrow (Friday) is probably for electrical substations that could be repaired faster than if we obliterated the entire powerplant.

Iran's leaders better tell the IRGC to go away quietly and open Hormuz, or Iran is in deep trouble.

Its a very good question to ask. In the Princeton nuclear war scenario Russia hits the EU with a tactical nuke, and the EU responds, and the nuclear exchange ratchets up the scale, would the US nuke Russia under Article 5 knowing Russia would respond? Is the US bound by honor? I'd say yes, but democrats are unpredictable.
