Trump to end LGBTQ crisis hotline… why?

How do you know if any hotline solves a real problem?
If someone considers suicide and walks away…..how do you know?
So Slade3200 is wrong to assume that the LGBT option saves lives.
Even if someone calls a hotline and just feels better, it is worth it
A reasonable argument for a general suicide hotline. If trannies really need their own, let trans groups fund it.

Problem gambling groups, alcoholic organizations, even porn addiction groups fund their own hotlines. What makes anyone think I should pay for theirs?

No, Slade is correct to say that an LGBTQ hotline is a valuable resource.
If it is not, it would not be receiving thousands of calls a day.

He is also correct in that it shows what a callous asshole Trump is.

No, he is convinced (or pretends to be) that it prevents suicide:

That’s bullshit: out of all the trillions our government spends I don’t see millions for mental healthcare as a necessity. The costs of dealing with the after effects of suicide and mental health issues probably far outweighed the costs of prevention and support efforts
He's not so certain about the numbers. He asked me to tell him(!).

Suicide hotlines and LGBtQ+ “hotlines” can exist without government tax dollars being used.

Same reason the Vets have a specific line. They are a high risk group with specialized needs and issues. Connecting them with professionals trained to support those needs and issues gives a better chance of better support
are you suggesting creating an agency similar to the VA to served the LGBTQ group.

But that not true, their website even states that they will still get the same expert and professional care. Its not being reduced to a lesser service, its the same service, they just have to use the same line everyone else does.

The service wasnt cut, they can still get the same help, according to their website.
Then tell me, if there is zero difference then why make the move and why are those engaged in the support efforts saying this:

In an email, a spokesperson for the Trevor Project, a nonprofit that responds to roughly half of 988 calls and texts from LGBTQ youth, said the suicide prevention organization had received an official stop-work order from the Trump administration for its work supporting 988’s specialized services for LGBTQ youth.
“This is devastating, to say the least. Suicide prevention is about people, not politics,” said Jaymes Black, the Trevor Project’s CEO. “The administration’s decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible.”

this wasn’t for mental health

It was to have an option 3 on the hotline where the xiden admin asked if you were gay before getting you help

At the cost of 33 million
Partially correct. It added an option 3 with corresponding trained support to provided those in that group with specialized support

No it didn’t, it took them to the same operator who connected them to counseling in their community

33 million just to have an option 3 not to actually help people

It was a giant waste of money
That’s fake news. Stop spreading lies.

The $33 million allocated to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline "Press 3 option" was spent on supporting specialized services specifically tailored for LGBTQ+ youth.
Here are some details regarding how the funds were spent:
Supporting specialized subnetworks: The funding was allocated to support organizations and services that specifically focus on providing crisis intervention for LGBTQ+ youth.
Training and support for counselors: The funds were used to train and support crisis counselors who were equipped to address the specific needs and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ callers.
Providing free and confidential support: The specialized services offered through "Press 3" provided free and confidential emotional support and crisis counseling to those in need.
Connecting callers to resources: Counselors trained to support LGBTQ+ callers also connected them to resources relevant to their needs.

The counselors are still there. That didn’t change

I understand debate about trans in sports and locker rooms etc. but why in the world would anybody end a crisis hotline that receives over 2000 calls a day? These are youth who are suicidal and in crisis reaching out for help. And there’s no plan or effort to replace the assistance with anything.

Play your political games all you want but cutting off a lifeline to people in need of help is just cruel.

Does anybody want to try and justify this?

The general crisis hotline will still be fully operational, and the option to remove LGTBLMNOP+ specific guidance is what is being targeted. Why cater to a specific ideology, which is really just a mental illness, that costs more than $30 million / year, when the general service is still available? Instead of continuing the narrative that trans-testicle females are actual females, perhaps they should be getting psychiatric help instead.

The fact that when I asked Slade3200 how many suicides there were before the alphabet hotline, he literally said "you tell me."

I'll try again:

Hey rightwinger, how many suicides of trans kids were there in the 80's, when there was far less acceptance?
Who the Fuk knows?

I doubt if anyone bothered to track it
I do know hundreds of thousands of gays died from AIDs in the 80s and Reagan did not give a shit

Republicans haven’t changed in 40 years

If you dont even know that there were trans suicides, then dont be surprised that i dont accept Slade3200's evide ce free clsim that it will be 2,000 per day all because of Trump.

I had a gay guy in the 80's tell me he was terrified of getting AIDS. I told him to sit down and shut up. My advice saved his life.
