Beijing will create 13 million jobs by 2020, investing $360 billion in clean energy, while Trump vows to abandon the sector.

China is preparing to go big on the only major new source of sustainable high-wage employment in the coming decades.

Beijing’s newest 5-year energy development plan invests a stunning 2.5 trillion yuan ($360 billion) in renewable generation by 2020. Of that, $144 billion will go to solar, about $100 billion to wind, $70 billion to hydropower, and the rest to sources like tidal and geothermal power.

The Chinese National Energy Administration said in a statement Thursdaythe resulting “employment will be more than 13 million people.”

China is already doing way better than the U.S. in this regard, and President-elect Trump’s commitment to opposing clean energy will not make things any better. As the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) reported last year, China already has over 40 percent of all jobs in renewables, globally, while the U.S. has under 10 percent (see chart above).

We know clean energy jobs are the only major new source of sustainable high-wage employment in the coming decades for several reasons.

Why is Trump abandoning clean energy for dirty coal? Sounds like we should learn to speak Chinese.

More leftist propaganda coming from a country that eats rodents, dogs, and cats as the main source of protein.

Communism suits you well. Start learning Chinese and get your visa. No one will miss you.
They have had seriously good economic success for a long time now

Expecting us to maintain our economic position in the world without seriously considering what these other countries are doing is just plain STUPID.

Let's not CHOOSE to be losers - OK?

Somehow, this generation of America has just plain gone to sleep.

We think we are OWED being leaders.

And, that's not helped by the alt-right idiots who seem to think that we get to win without doing the work simply because we have some white folk and speak English.

China's investment in their clean energy program is an act of desperation. They've nearly polluted and poisoned themselves to death and the size of the investment shows how desperate they are. That has ZERO to do with Trump ceding jobs to China. If you love China so much, punch your ticket for Beijing. I recommend you take a gas mask.

It's called evolution. We also poisoned America during the Industrial Revolution. China is evolving.

China is having their 30's and 1940's right now! Hopefully they learned from our history not to completely allow free and unfair trade once they get to their 70's and 80's. But, I am betting they will be a very powerful nation soon.

The entire world has been doing good off our backs to the tune of an $800 Billion trade deficit every year. Wake the fuck up!

Liberterians and extreme rightiest are already losers as they live out in the countryside and hate education with a passion. If they had their way we'd look like Somalia.

No, sounds like you regressives should quit lying. What China does inside their borders is their business and costs us nothing.

It's time for us to get "desperate" about something - unless we plan on giving up on the high tech, post-manufacturing world that has been arriving for years now.

We are the 5%. We're ahead in many ways, but winning with 5% is not going to happen by being lazy.

China is already the world leading exporter of solar and wind technology and has far more patents in that area than any other nation.

Can we be a player in that market segment?

Not by following Exxon, like we are planning on doing for the next 4 years.

That's not an excuse for giving up, surrender monkey.

Yes, we're rich and we love other people's stuff - because they do a good job.

Get the hint?

It's worse than that. We can't keep giving up important market segments and expect to remain economic leaders.

Remember that we are the 5%. Those who have only 5% usually have to actually work to be the ones out in front.

They were hoping Dumbass Hillary would use taxpayer money to subsidize them...bet that plan changes substantially now that Trump has won the presidency

5% of what? And exactly what market segment are we giving up? On a per capita basis we created more green energy jobs than China.

You mean that utopia where you can walk the streets at night, you know your banker, barber and waitress on a first name basis, where neighbors help neighbors and streets are clean and buildings are free of graffiti, where the memorial to fallen soldiers graces the lawn of the County Courthouse and flags line the streets for Veterans and Memorial Days?

I've been to Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City, Houston, Memphis, Atlanta, Milwaukee...those places DO look like Somalia.

Where I live the town square looks like this...

The only graffiti I see is when the freight train from California rolls through.
