Trump simply isn't the great negotiator

BS, Trump is the one in charge. What you're saying is Trump is dumb as a box of rocks. I won't disagree with that. But Bi Bi isn't giving the orders here. Trump is.

In fact, Trump somewhat bragged about dragging Israel into this war.
Trump believes rightly or wrong that his power stems from his alignment with Isreal and the AIPAC lobby.
It is estimated that Israel related lobbies put over $200m into Trump's campaign..

I can simply ask the question... If the EU or any member country had ploughed this much money into either (or both) sides of the US presidential campaign, it would rightly be called election interference.
It is pretty simple, Isreal bought their own candidate in the election (might even bought both) and this is pay back on their investment...
US deserve so much better than this, in fairness Isreal deserve better too... Isreal is being led by a bunch of warmongers who want to have a war backed by US to gain land in the Middle East. This will only cause endless conflict.

He has a way out but Trump can't see it without eating a small bit of crow...

He tells Isreal to stop bombing anyone, retreat from Lebanon & let aid into Gaza... Anything less and US is cutting aid, won't veto UN votes and not object to EU placing sanctions on Isreal. Tell them that discussions on illegal settlers and the West Bank are to follow. Trump isn't going for re-election so they can't lobby him. Make it very clear that Isreal under Bibi has a very strained relationship with US, Isreal would be better served with less aggressive leader.

Then turns to Iran, open the Strait of Hormuz right now and talks between EU/UN and Iran can start now... Tell EU/UN that you are willing to start a path to normalisation for Iran if they open the strait, top supporting terrorism and improve their human rights record. If you get democracy into Iran, that is a bonus (doubtful)...

Take a bow, even his worst detractors would have to admit that would be a good job...
Trump's most important thing is his ego. That's always been the problem.

Well he has a few which are not good when President...

I reality he isn't a critical thinker, he can't see moves ahead... He isn't playing 3D Chess, he is playing Snap, and it shows...

When he said, how could we know they would have closed the Strait of Hormuz? Your own intelligence staff would have told you (I think you are right on the ego there)...

That is why US allies struggle at times with him. Trump is very transactional, he just doesn't get why certain things are in place. US AID was in place in Africa so US could be close to these governments, this allowed them leverage mining rights. USAID was pulled and China moved in, now US has little access to rare earth metals.
US tried to have a trade war and China laughed at them and asked where are ye getting your rare earth metals, checkmate...

This has been repeated since...

More like he's playing marbles.

As in, he lost his.

The Iranian regime has agreed not to have nuclear weapons, President Donald Trump told the New York Post’s “Pod Force One” podcast — but he added that Tehran could still “change their mind.”

“I did have to say we have to do something about Iran, because regardless of how well we’re doing [economically] we can’t let them have a nuclear weapon,” he said in the interview, which was published Wednesday. “They’ve already agreed they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon.”

When asked to confirm that the Iranian regime had agreed to that term, Trump said: “Oh yeah, they’ve agreed to that.”

“I mean, now they can change their mind, but that was one of the things they’ve had to agree, they’ve agreed to that. That was the big thing,” he said.

Between the inherent dishonesty of Iranian state media, and the inherent dishonesty of the trump regime, I have no idea what to believe. Under the JCPOA Iran shipped 97% of its enriched uranium to Russia and agreed to IAEA inspections. There's been no reporting I'm aware of to indicate Iran has agreed to something similar this time around.

Yes, I'll use that quote "He isn't playing 3D chess, he is playing Snap".

About sums him up.

Yeah, I could have told him what would happen, and have a reasonable chance of getting it right, and I'm a nobody who comes on this forum a few times a day.

he thinks he can just bully everyone. "I'll do this, and then this is what WILL happen", then it doesn't and he just gets angry because that's who he is.

Trump NEEDS a deal that is better than the deal Obama got and Trump tore up. Otherwise it’s all been pointless and he’s lost.

Trump’s obsession with undoing everything Obama did, has lead to this.
What kind of deal do you want?

And Bi Bi's not listening.

Obviously.

It’s completely relevant. If you make a post criticizing Trump’s deal making then you ought to be able to say what kind of a deal you want.

Every deal Trump makes is a bad deal because he’s a bad negotiator. I worked in real estate law with lawyers who negotiated multi-million dollar deals.

Trump brags that he just walks in, “reads” the room and goes with his gut instincts which are pretty good “because he’s rich”. The best negotiator I ever worked for knew more about the people he was negotiating with than their own lawyers.

Trump will also simply tear up any deal he signs when it fails. See his NAFTA rewrite, the USMCA deal, which increased your trade deficits and which Trump tore up on his return to office.

Trump negotiated with Kim. Kim got nuclear weapons and Trump got a box of bone fragments from the Korean War.
