Trump says a tariff dividend of 'at least' $2,000 will be paid to most Americans

In truth, a tariff is a tax that, like just about any tax, is a shared burden. Who carries what share of the burden changes good-to-good and country-to-country, depending on things like elasticity, scale, value to the dollar, etc.

So yes, for some goods, it may be true that a foreign company or country is paying MOST of the tax. But in no cases for any good are they paying ALL of it. And in some cases, consumers are paying MOST of the tax. But none are paying ALL.

However, an undesired and completely predictable side effect arises: The domestic producers in the country levying the tariffs raise their prices. Yes, they do it simply because they can. If the producer of the alternative good is forced to raise his prices 20% to stay in business with a 50% tariff (thereby, "paying most of the tax", even), then a domestic producer can raise their prices 12% and then brag about what a great deal you are getting, buying from them. And they 100% WILL do this, if they can get away with it, in the market for that good.

So this alone adds back an additional economic burden to the US consumers on top of the new taxes they are paying, in the form of the tariffs.

This isn’t a tax. It’s money being paid by other countries.
Tariffs, is this about tariffs, and are you actually saying that tariffs imposed by trump are NOT a TAX on either importers or passed onto the consumer.

I don't follow, because the tariff is CLEARLY, 100%, paid at the docks by the importer.
Tell me I'm wrong or that I misunderstood your 'other Countries' comment.

You should educate yourself and leave the more intelligent people alone. The world is a dumber place because of you.
LMAO!! You think Newsmax is telling you the truth?

True, but still, we need to pay down the debt. I know people can use the money right now, but.. 38 trillion...
If the money goes to Americans buying American then the economy is boosted. That alone raises money for the fed to (theoretically) pay down debt.
What’s more, it’s better for the people to handle that money than for the government to.

That's correct. We are $37 trillion in debt.

Well no, if he would demand a balanced budget get passed I would support that.
when is the last time any R or D passed a balanced budget?

we would not be 37T in debt if they ever did

our government likes to spend recklessly no matter who is in power
because they can therefore they do

Sorry, never. Trump hasn't even yet collected the tariff revenue that these checks would require, not to mention he's probably about to be forced to give half or more of it back.
Lack of money isn't exactly a blocker for the US government.

I want my MTV!

Who got their $5,000 Doge Check?
Who got their $2,000 Tariff Check?
Who is being Fooled?

Meanwhile.

There is play in the products sent here from overseas. On many we may not see much of an increase. Also, these tariffs will adjust downward at some point or are adjustable and not set in concrete. Somehow, we have to get more manufacturing here. We need to take care of ourselves in an emergency. It will not be like the heyday of manufacturing most likely. It will provide a measure of comfort to keep things running as smooth as possible in a not so good time.

when is the last time any R or D passed a balanced budget?

How is that relevant to what I said?

It's 38 trillion and it continues because people like you will continue to make excuses and continue to vote for it.

"Well no, if he would demand a balanced budget get passed I would support that."

Lashing out as usual. I've never done any such thing but not being able to defend your positions you have to lash out.

Naive? LOL, I've condemned them all.

That was a fairly long string of gibberish

Sighing, yes it was mussing some lerters, characters. Ooopps.

The answere is: The other Countries must REMOVE ONE-WAY Tariffs on USA Goods.

Including harassment, slowdown. Costly illegal hidden blockage on American goods coming in to them.

It's illegal for other countries to create their own import laws? LOL

  • President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that a $2,000 tariff dividend would be paid to Americans.

  • In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the payments would be for all but "high income people."

  • The president also called critics of tariffs "fools" and said the US was taking in "trillions of dollars."
President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that a dividend payment of "at least" $2,000 would be paid to most Americans from US tariff revenues.

In a post on Truth Social, he wrote: "We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion."

"A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone."

Gonna have to go with "not sure this is a good idea".....It should only be given out to taxpayers.

If deadbeats are gonna get it then I say use it to help pay down the National Debt.
That will be inflationary

Its better to pay down the debt
