You can meet more interesting people in a month of overlanding than you will living in Panama for the rest of your life.

I have friends who are dedicated overlanders, the stuff they do is amazing. They are adventurers.

The adventure comes with the freedom to travel on our own timeline and not be tied down by our jobs. There is so much of the world we have yet to see, even though we both seen a lot of it. My wife has been to Africa but I have not. I have been to Europe and the Middle East but my wife has not. Neither of us have been to South America.
We are not into camping or even glamping, just not our thing.
Panama is a nice central location to travel to all parts of the world. And after paying 50k in taxes last year to the Fed Govt the idea of no US income tax on my first 110k each year sounds damn nice.

We live like kings now compared to most of the nation. All we see on this forum is how people are suffering due to Biden yet our lives are totally unaffected. We paid more in taxes than the median income for a family in this country. I do not need to move to live like a king.

All I want in Panama is a nice little house by the beach where I can drink my coffee watching the tide roll in/out. I want to live where people are not dominated and motivated by partisan politics. In a country where people are still polite and where work is not the most important thing to them.

I have pretty simple wants and desires.
