trump kneecaps the GOP shutdown strategy

The reason it’s unhelpful in this case is that it legitimizes Democrats’ talking point that Republicans could end this shutdown any time they want to. And that could make it harder for Republicans to shake the blame they’ve been saddled with.

It’s been pretty remarkable how much Americans have continued to blame Republicans more than Democrats for the shutdown, despite it being Democrats who are seeking the concession (i.e. an extension of the enhanced Obamacare subsidies). A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Thursday showed 45% of Americans mainly blamed Trump and the GOP, versus 33% who held Democrats responsible.

Yes, the repubs could get rid of the filibuster. But they won't. Do they realize they are losing in their shutdown efforts? They have control of the WH, the Senate, and the House. They cannot blame the Dems, when the Dems control nothing. They would rather inflict pain on millions of Americans that compromise on ACA subsidies. Everyone know trump and his cronies want to kill the ACA. The GOP House is becoming a stain on American history. They are not working, they are vacationing at home And they think they can win in 2026? These weeks of the GOP House sitting on their hands are going to be great campaign ads for Dems.
First, when you need 60 votes, you do not control the Senate.

Secondly, Trump the top negotiator in the world, is as usual three steps ahead of everyone else, especially the leftwingers. He has once again put the Democrats in a checkmate position. Trump wins either way. If he's bluffing the nuclear option and the Democrats cave, the Democrats get branded as losers, and Trump continues his great economic climb. If he has to do the nuke option, the Democrats look like childish obstructors, and Trump the adult in getting people the help they need. So Republicans don't have to give an inch. Trump, in making this pronouncement, has given them cover to not negotiate. They don't have to. They've won.

Sometimes I just shake my head in sheer amazement over the gifts this man has.

Trump is making a mistake.
We should never give into hostage takers, because it will encourage them to do it again.
The Democrats are screwing over everyone.
They should lose more seats in the midterm elections.
.
The endless cheating they do, has helped to enable this. I think they stole 3 senate seats or so in 2024. We actually saw them try to steal Pennsylvania.

The DO NOTHING repubs are shooting themselves in the foot.
I would believe that
if not for 3 branches in conservative hands
Up & down
But
Very constitional

Dems are hoist by their own petard.

The GOP shutdown strategy is to bend over and take it up the ass from the Democrat MINORITY, as if Democrats control congress and won the elections.

Some things never change.

This stupid senate rule was cooked up in 1917 because senators are lazy. To close debate and get to voting you have to filibuster. Which meant speaking on the senate floor non-stop 24/7 for however long you could keep it up.

Now the lazy bastards just phone it in from home, their intention to filibuster, and go back to picking their navel while the country is held hostage.

What I realize is it takes 60 votes to pass a CR in the Senate and the Republicans do not control 60 seats. I also know Schumer and the Democrats voted for these type of CR during the Biden presidency 13 times but now they won’t. Schumer and the Democrats could end this shutdown anytime they wanted but they refuse.

Your understanding is incorrect. It only takes a simple majority to pass legislation.

Under the current Senate rules it takes 60 votes to invoke cloture.

It only works ales a simple majority to change the rule.

The GOP didn’t need a single DEM to end cloture and pass the bill.

The primary reason that Little Mikey of the Very Small Johnson sent the House home is that with the election of Arizona Democrat Adelita Grijalva to fill her late father's seat would MTJ the votes she needs to demand the release of EPSTEIN FILES. Ms. Grijalva has already said she would vote in favor of doing so. MTJ would make a motion to Vacate The Chair, and with zero popularity in House for Johnson, he would be out of job....just in time for 2026 Elections.

It’s a Win-Win for those of us who believe in Constitutional Government… No ACA or SNAP benefits being paid out.
