AI Overview

As of March 2026, President Donald Trump has maintained an uncompromising stance on the enforcement tactics used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), rejecting demands from Democrats to reform agency practices.

The fault lies entirely on him.
Good for Trump. Don't give the dastardly an inch,

Republicans approve of the illegal, overly aggressive tactics by ICE.

Republicans want immigrants to be subject to brutality and hate.

Trump’s immigration agenda is motivated by racism, bigotry, and hate.
You and the Democrats controlled media make those claims. But those claims are not true.

And yet trump refuses to negotiate a compromise on the tactics ICE uses. Apparently, you don't know that because of the misinformation you consume every day.

Republicans balk at Senate Democrats’ DHS shutdown counteroffer

Republicans on Wednesday balked at a Democratic counteroffer to reopen the Department of Homeland Security, as lawmakers and the White House scramble to strike a deal before a scheduled two-week recess begins on Friday ahead of a busy U.S. travel week for spring breaks and the Easter holiday.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., told reporters on Wednesday there was “no point” in Republicans issuing another response to Democrats’ counter and said the Senate would vote later that day on the GOP proposal unveiled earlier this week.

“It’s not even close to being real,” Thune said of the counteroffer. “They know better. They’re asking for things that have already been turned down. So it just seems like they’re going in circles, spinning, spinning.”

John Thune said of the D's, "They’re asking for things that have already been turned down." As though trump turning something down indicates the proposal is unreasonable. The guy who keeps saying he isn't going to make a deal with D's on reforms to ICE favored by a majority of Americans. This, after the public seeing first hand the illegal, overly aggressive tactics ICE used in MN in violation of nearly 100 court orders.

Autocrats don't compromise. They dictate terms. So the impasse continues.
Why do Republicans continue to refuse to end the shutdown?

A bill is finally headed to the House. Previous to this the problem was trump's refusal to compromise on, or even discuss, ICE's tactics. Whether the House passes the bill or senile grandpa Don signs it is an open question.

“If the White House believes they have the authority to pay these workers, then every day for the past 41 days, they have been making a conscious decision not to pay them,” House Appropriations ranking member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) said last night, which was about right.

That observation cuts thru the deceitful Repub talking points like a hot knife thru butter.

Here’s another Democrat saying what they’re really after out loud. They want the deportations to stop. They need those votes and people counted in the census.

Revolt by House Republicans Threatens Senate-Passed Measure to Fund D.H.S.

As House Republican leaders weigh putting a short-term measure to fund the Homeland Security Department to a vote, Democrats are calling on their G.O.P. counterparts to pass the bill the Senate approved overnight to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, but not Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol.

“Speaker Johnson must bring this bill up for a vote on the House floor,” Representative Don Beyer of Virginia said on social media.

“We can end this chaos today.” Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the minority leader, said on social media that the delays at airports across the country stemming from Transportation Security Administration agents going unpaid “needs to end today.” Said Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland, who supports the bill: “I don’t think we’re going to get anything more by waiting.”

Repubs are at fault. Full stop.

Totally unwilling to compromise. That's the problem with MAGAs.

That's all the old GOP ever did was get run over by Democrats, thanks to weak RINOs. Trump changed all that, although at first he would have been willing to compromise. But they took such a radical tack against him he said, screw that noise and doubled down. I would have done the same. Why compromise with liars and cheats who want to destroy you?
