trump is demanding Panama returns the canal

2.2% negative GDP?

nearly 3 million jobs lost?

Murder rate up?

trade deficit up hugely?

CPI up "bigly"?

public federal debt up. By 50%?

Yeah, that economy was great.

SMH
Only a stupid person looks past the covid outbreak and quotes data including that. Biden canceled the investigation into China and covid. Why is that? Actually I know. You don't need to stress yourself out spinning it crappy boy.

We spent the most, China. The fact we are only number 10, and spent the most, highlights trump is right, panama isn’t being fair and ripping us off

The treaty requires them to be neutral

Time to take it back
Biggest expense is shipping companies that own the cargo ships, bidding many times standard fee of passage, for the privilege of being scheduled to the front of the line, one Japanese company sending ship, bound for US port, paid additional $4 million Dollars, before ever leaving port, for the privilege of having a guaranteed slot to pass through. Something has changed in traditional weather patterns, causing a several years' drought, and shorter supply of frfesh water to the canal, and filling to more shallow level to make the transit, requiring lower weight of ships passing through, to avoid grounding.

What’s your issue with this?

I do not remember all the details, but I believe the US got paid for digging the Panama canal through a 100 year lease or something like that.
We really have no legal standing any more, if the contractual obligations simply ran out.

What makes more sense is that the alternate route through Nicaragua would be at sea level, so could be much easier to maintain.
No need for raising and lowering locks.

No it was our until 1977 when Carter signed a treaty agreeing to turn it over to panama by 1999, with the condition it was run neautraliy and didn’t give benefits to other nations

The arguement now is that they aren’t being neutral with what they charge us

But seriously, does this sound like the ravings of a madman or a reasonable person to you?
Firstly, I thank the Honorable Donald J Trump from placing the US First;

Now I respond to the Dingle Berry who referred to President Trump as a "madman" for the hell of it:

THE PANAMA CANAL WAS CONDITIONALLY RETURNED TO PANAMA

WE BUILT THE ******* THING

"A decade later, in 1974, negotiations toward a settlement began and resulted in the Torrijos–Carter Treaties. On 7 September 1977, the treaty was signed by President of the United States Jimmy Carter and Omar Torrijos, de facto leader of Panama. This mobilized the process of granting the Panamanians free control of the canal so long as Panama signed a treaty guaranteeing the permanent neutrality of the canal. The treaty led to full Panamanian control effective at noon on 31 December 1999, and the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) assumed command of the waterway. The Panama Canal remains one of the chief revenue sources for Panama.[76][77]"

Do you really think?

The locks are fed by a fresh water lake. Why is that and not salt water? C'mon and explain it, Einstein.

You need to use fresh water in the locks in order to kill ocean life that would otherwise cross over between the 2 oceans and cause problems.

Are they charging us more than others?

Since we illegally invaded Panama to arrest Noreiga, it seems Panama my have a legitimate beef with the US.
US drug laws likely are not even legal inside the US, but clearly illegal to try to enforce against Panama.
Arresting Noreiga was a violation of international law.

So that's a fact that Panama charges us more than others? Trump always has some imaginary grievance. You can't trust that ****** with facts.

Building the Panama Canal did not give us any ownership of any part of Panama.
It all depends on what the original contracts negotiated, and we can't make any additional demands now.
And remember it probably is Columbia who is the injured party, not the US.

Probably time to make an alternate lower route through Nicaragua, that needs no vertical locks.
