Of course it is. Iran has been attacking Israel, a close US ally, for nearly a half century and openly declares that its goal is to destroy Israel. If it acquires nuclear weapons it becomes and existential threat to Israel, so by blowing up Iran's nuclear program the US has removed that existential threat.
