And for what? Iran has been working on nuclear weapons for years. So what. Would they use them on israel? Israel already has nuclear weapons. All we ended up doing was fund and arm the hell out of the Taliban.

1)The President has the power to act unilaterally as CiC to respond to events that might move too fast for Congress--in this case..a few of our bunker-busters and that will be that.
Trump will take a victory lap and Israel will mop up the rest.
Our only worry would be terrorism..what Iran has called 'asymmetrical warfare'.

2) The nuclear 'football' is to allow the President to respond to a nuclear attack on the US in a timely fashion. You better believe that if the President decided to nuke someone in a random, spur of the moment decision--it would not happen without the concurrence of the JCS..at the very least.

Given that you think that FDR declared war on Japan..when he clearly stated that he was asking Congress to declare war...I think you might be out of your depth.
